Originally opened in the roaring twenties as a lavish hotel on the waterfront, Breakers was a sought-after destination for world-famous stars. Following an extensive renovation, Fairmont Breakers returns as Long Beach’s only luxury hotel, restoring one of California’s most storied properties to its original grandeur. It offers 185 boutique rooms and suites; a rooftop pool and terrace; an open-air rooftop lounge with views of the Pacific; a blissful two-story spa, wellness and fitness center; dining venues and bars including a live jazz club; and 10,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor function space. Job Description
Reporting to the General Manager, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Exemplify and lead the Company Service and Brand Culture initiatives
- Act as the Strategic Business Partner and functional Subject Matter Expert to Senior Hotel Leadership
- Align and execute People & Culture activities to Employee Value Proposition and Strategic plan
- Oversee people & culture initiatives, acting as a liaison between corporate office and hotel
- Collaborate with corporate Talent & Culture function on key programs/initiatives
- Lead and oversee the day-to-day operation of the People & Culture Department
- Lead labor relations initiatives
- Promote positive employee relations, overall employee experience, and drive employee engagement through an environment that encourages open communication, trust, mutual respect, and fun
Qualifications
- 4+ years’ experience as a Director, People & Culture / Human Resources (in both union and non-union settings)
- Passionate about promoting company values and creating programming that supports a positive workplace culture
- Collaborative team player, with excellent influencing skills with the ability to build relationships easily amongst various stakeholder groups
- Solid understanding of U.S. employment laws, including California State Law
- University/College degree in a related discipline, or combination of education and experience
- Proven success in leading strategic initiatives that positively impact hotel KPIs
