Job Description

An entertainment company is seeking a Lead Database Engineer (Cassandra) to join their team! This individual will partner closely with engineering and platform teams to design, automate, and support large-scale Cassandra infrastructure in a highly available production environment. Responsibilities include building automation solutions, monitoring cluster health, troubleshooting performance and reliability issues, executing upgrades and migrations, and contributing to architectural decisions that improve scalability and resilience. The engineer will also help mentor team members, participate in an on-call rotation, and leverage AI-assisted workflows to improve operational efficiency and problem resolution. This is a full-time opportunity supporting U.S. time zones, with participation in an on-call rotation required and compensation flexible based on experience. The role requires individual to be within 3 hour radius of HQ in Beverly Hills, CA; flexibility required to travel to HQ at a 24 hour notice.

Skills and Requirements

  • Deep, hands-on Apache Cassandra administration and production support experience
  • Strong expertise with Cassandra architecture, schema design, query optimization, performance tuning, compaction strategies, and repair processes
  • Ability to interpret Cassandra performance metrics and diagnose platform issues
  • Experience operating large-scale, highly available, multi-region Cassandra environments
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience utilizing Ansible and/or Terraform
  • Proven ability to design and implement automation solutions and operational tooling
  • AWS cloud experience including EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, and CloudWatch
  • Scripting experience with Python or similar languages
  • Monitoring and observability expertise utilizing tools such as Prometheus and Grafana
  • Experience participating in architecture discussions and influencing technical decisions
  • Experience utilizing AI/LLM tools to improve engineering productivity, troubleshooting, or automation
  • CI/CD experience, preferably with GitLab CI/CD
  • Willingness to participate in on-call support rotations
  • Prior leadership, mentoring, or technical lead experience
  • Experience with ScyllaDB, including migrations from ScyllaDB to Cassandra
  • Background in DBA, DBRE, SRE, or platform engineering roles
  • Experience with Kubernetes, EKS, and Helm
  • Exposure to Vault, Splunk, Vector, Medusa, Reaper, or similar ecosystem tools
  • Enterprise-scale experience within fintech, SaaS, gaming, e-commerce, or other highly regulated environments
