Job Summary:

Supervises nurse anesthetist services and operations by assisting with recruitment and retention, supporting staffing models and clinical workflows, fostering collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, implementing protocols and performance standards, contributing to budget planning, and promoting professional development. Provides and supervises safe and effective anesthesia care by delivering anesthesia services across all phases of care, developing individualized care plans, supporting high-risk and emergency cases, communicating anesthesia plans and risks to patients and families, and modeling culturally competent, patient-centered care. Coordinates documentation and continuous improvement efforts by ensuring accurate and timely anesthesia records, supporting survey and compliance readiness activities, providing requested audit documentation and reports, evaluating new anesthesia technologies, and assisting with reviewing patient care data to inform improvements. Supports regulatory compliance and quality improvement efforts by assisting leadership in maintaining adherence to institutional policies, regulations, and national standards, implementing evidence-based protocols and safety measures, contributing to quality assurance initiatives and peer review, and supervising the professional development of anesthesia staff through training, case discussions, continuing education, and, as applicable, coordination of student clinical rotations.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and coordinates daily activities of designated work team or unit by monitoring the execution and completion of tactical action items and work assignments; ensures all policies and procedures are followed.

  • Aligns team efforts and standards, and measures progress in achieving results; determines and carries out processes and methodologies; resolves escalated issues as appropriate.

  • Develops work plans to meet business priorities and deadlines; coordinates, obtains and distributes resources.

  • Removes obstacles that impact performance; identifies and recommends improvement opportunities; influences teams to execute in alignment with operational objectives.

  • Provides and supervises safe and effective anesthesia care by: providing anesthesia services and monitoring patients across all phases of care, including preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases; developing and implementing individualized care plans based on patient medical history, surgical requirements, and risk factors; providing clinical expertise to support high-risk patients, emergency situations, and challenging anesthetic procedures; communicating anesthesia plans, risks, and postoperative expectations to patients and families; and modeling culturally competent and patient-centered care to foster an inclusive environment that meets the needs of diverse patient populations.

  • Supports regulatory compliance and quality improvement efforts by: assisting department leadership to ensure adherence to institutional policies, state regulations, and national standards (e.g., American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AA), American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), The Joint Commission (TJC)) to ensure safe and effective anesthesia care; implementing evidence-based protocols, safety checklists, and infection control measures to minimize risks; assisting in the development of quality assurance initiatives, including case reviews and audits, to improve patient safety, care outcomes, and procedural consistency; and participating in peer review.

  • Coordinates documentation and continuous improvement efforts by: ensuring accurate, timely, and comprehensive anesthesia records to support patient safety and care continuity; conducting survey and compliance readiness activities and delivering requested audit documentation, information, and reports; evaluating new anesthesia technologies and innovations to enhance patient care; and assisting with reviewing patient care data, including outcomes, satisfaction scores, and complication rates.

  • Supervises nurse anesthetist services and operations by: assisting in the recruitment, onboarding, and retention of anesthetist team members as directed; providing input and support for the implementation of staffing models, work schedules, and clinical workflows to ensure optimal patient care and operational efficiency; fostering collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, including anesthesiologists, surgeons, and nursing staff, to coordinate care and address patient needs; implementing protocols, guidelines, and performance standards to promote consistency in care delivery and adherence to evidence-based practices; providing feedback for budget planning and resource allocation to support financial performance and quality care strategies; and promoting professional development through mentorship and performance feedback for the team.

  • Supervises the professional development of anesthesia staff by: mentoring, training, and providing access to continuing education opportunities; participating in case discussions to foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement; and may include assisting in the coordination of clinical rotations for anesthesia students from accredited programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in a leadership role with or without direct reports.

  • Masters degree in Nursing (MSN) AND minimum three (3) years of experience as a nurse anesthetist.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support required at hire

  • National Provider Identifier required at hire

  • Basic Life Support required at hire

  • Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist National Certification required at hire
