Human Resources (HR) Manager

Description A nonprofit organization in Northeast Indiana is seeking an experienced Interim HR Manager to provide immediate support during a transitional period. This is a hands-on, manager-level role focused on HR operations, compliance, employee lifecycle processes, and several high-priority projects over the coming months. The ideal candidate will have a strong HR leadership background and be comfortable balancing strategic initiatives with day-to-day operational support in a lean HR environment. Key Responsibilities HR Operations & Compliance Provide interim leadership and support for human resources operations. Ensure compliance with employment policies, procedures, and applicable regulations. Review current HR processes and identify opportunities to streamline, defer, discontinue, or improve administrative activities. Support employee relations, policy interpretation, and HR best practices. Benefits Administration Assist with preparation and execution of upcoming Open Enrollment activities. Support employee benefit communications and coordination with internal stakeholders. Performance Management Lead planning and execution of the organization's annual performance review process. Help design and implement a transition from a calendar-year review cycle to an anniversary-date review model. Recruitment & Talent Acquisition Partner with leadership to recruit and fill critical open positions. Assist with candidate screening, interview coordination, and hiring recommendations. Provide guidance on recruiting strategies in a competitive labor market. Systems & Training Utilize Paylocity for HR, payroll, and employee administration functions. Support onboarding and employee orientation processes. Work with training platforms such as Relias to track staff training and compliance requirements. Assist with workforce data management and reporting. Project Work Lead and support key HR initiatives and process improvement projects. Evaluate current workflows and recommend efficiencies to support organizational goals. Partner with department leaders to address workforce planning and organizational needs. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. 5+ years of progressive HR experience, including HR management or HR leadership responsibilities. Prior experience supporting nonprofit organizations is preferred. Strong working knowledge of employment law, compliance, employee relations, and HR best practices. Experience with benefits administration and performance management programs. Proficiency with HRIS platforms, including Paylocity preferred. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and operate independently. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
