Full job description

Beam is building the fastest cloud runtime for AI. Our serverless runtime launches GPU-backed containers in under a second, powering apps that scale to millions of users. Ambitious startups and Fortune 100 companies use Beam to host custom ML models and run LLM-generated code in secure sandboxes. We also provide dedicated GPU clusters to AI companies that need bare-metal capacity. That capacity comes from a network of datacenter partners and, increasingly, from our own hardware. Beam serves millions of requests a day for hundreds of companies in production. We’re backed by Y Combinator, Tiger Global, and prominent developer-tool founders, including the founder of Snyk and the former CTO of GitHub. About the Role We’re hiring a Head of Compute Operations to help us onboard more compute to our platform. You’ll work directly with data center operators, OEMs, suppliers, and compute providers to evaluate, test, and contract new capacity to the platform. What You’ll Do

  • Manage our supply of compute. Keep a live view of capacity across our datacenter partners, from hardware type, location, network fabric, operator, and delivery dates.
  • Onboard and vet new compute operators. Run diligence and KYC on new partners and review hardware specs and BOMs.
  • Bring clusters online. Manage the process of running a POC and acceptance testing, including burn-in, NCCL, and interconnect bandwidth. Set up bare-metal and BMC access, and hand clusters to customers on the date we promised.
  • Build our support playbook. Setup run books to escalate issues to suppliers, manage RMAs and replacements, and track uptime against our SLAs.

Skills & Experience

  • You’ve worked in datacenter ops, capacity planning, or infrastructure delivery at a GPU cloud, neocloud, hyperscaler, or colo provider
  • You’re technical enough to SSH into a node and communicate things like the difference between InfiniBand and RoCE
  • You have the business acumen to explain how a deposit or prepayment schedule affects cash flow
  • You’ve managed vendors and held them accountable when things went wrong
  • You’re organized and have a strong attention to detail

How we work We’re a small team together in the office at least 4 days a week. You’ll work directly with the founders on every major deal and deployment. Expect occasional travel (20%) to visit datacenter sites. Benefits

  • Competitive salary and meaningful equity
  • Join a fast-growing pre-Series A company on the ground floor
  • Health, dental, and vision benefits with 90% coverage for you and 50% for dependents
  • Opportunities to represent Beam at events across the AI and cloud infrastructure community
  • Fitness stipend, learning budget, and much, much more
