Full job description
Description We are looking for an experienced Collections Specialist to support premium receivables and billing operations for a leading insurance organization in Warren, New Jersey. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for a detail-oriented individual who can manage complex accounts, strengthen cash recovery efforts, and work closely with internal teams as well as brokers and agents. The role requires sound judgment, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to resolve escalated collection and payment issues while helping improve operational controls and processes.
Responsibilities:

Manage complex billing and collection activity tied to receivables, including deductible-related accounts and higher-risk portfolios.

Investigate and resolve payment application discrepancies, outstanding balances, and unapplied cash to improve account accuracy.

Develop and execute collection strategies for overdue accounts, including negotiated payment arrangements and recovery plans.

Handle disputed receivables and other escalated matters by coordinating with stakeholders to reach timely resolution.

Partner with Underwriting, Finance, brokers, and agents to address premium-related issues and support effective collections outcomes.

Oversee recovery activity for aged and high-value balances, including coordination with external collection resources when needed.

Serve as a senior point of contact for escalation matters arising from offshore support teams and complex account situations.

Provide guidance to less experienced team members and share best practices that improve consistency and performance.

Identify process gaps and recommend stronger digital or manual controls that support governance, reporting, and cash flow improvement. Requirements • At least 5 years of experience in insurance billing, collections, receivables management, premium accounting, or a closely related function.

Background managing complex receivable portfolios, including delinquent, disputed, or high-exposure accounts.

Strong working knowledge of collection practices, billing workflows, and cash application processes.

Proven ability to negotiate payment solutions and build productive relationships with internal and external business partners.

Demonstrated success resolving operational issues that require analysis, judgment, and follow-through.

Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in a services or insurance-related environment.

Proficiency in insurance collections, commercial or consumer collections, and credit or receivables processes.
