Job Description

Position Summary:

The Human Resources Generalist supports an assigned College or Division and serves the needs of the leadership and personnel through maintaining expertise on people-related services, state/federal/CSU policies, supporting employee/division success. This position partners the with an HR Leader to ensure compliance with and adherence to broader University initiatives and policies. This position uses their expertise on policies, programs, and practices to keep management informed of new developments as well as contribute to the development and administration of HR related programs, procedures, and guidelines to help align the workforce with department goals.

Candidates may be considered for either the Intermediate Human Resources Generalist or Human Resources Generalist level based on their education, experience, and demonstrated ability to perform work of varying complexity, independence, and responsibility.

Roles hired through this pool may primarily serve a unit or college and will have the opportunity to support additional campus human resources teams. Positions will be onsite with possibility for hybrid work.

Salary Range:

Intermediate Human Resources Generalist: $50,000 - $70,000

Human Resources Generalist: $64,000 - $85,000

Job Duties:

  • Provide HR guidance and ensure compliance with University policies and procedures.

  • Administer and support employee lifecycle processes and HR transactions, including the maintenance of accurate employee records.

  • Provide accurate and timely HR support on employee relations, performance, leave, benefits, and other employment policies.

  • Other related duties as required.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Pre-employment Background Check (required for all new hires).

Minimum Qualifications:

Intermediate Human Resources Generalist

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of HR or HR-related administrative experience.

  • One (1) or more years of Human Resources experience.

  • Working knowledge of Human Resources principles, practices, and employment-related laws and regulations.

  • Experience providing customer service, consultation, or support to employees and managers.

Human Resources Generalist:

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of HR or HR-related administrative experience.

  • Three (3) or more years of Human Resources experience.

  • Working knowledge of Human Resources principles, practices, and employment-related laws and regulations.

  • Experience providing customer service, consultation, or support to employees and managers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships and communicate complex or sensitive information to employees, managers, and organizational leaders.

  • HR professional certification, such as SHRM-CP or PHR, and/or a master’s degree in HR or a related field.

  • Experience supporting multiple areas of the employee lifecycle, including employee relations, performance management, leave administration, recruitment and onboarding, benefits, and/or other HR programs.

  • Experience interpreting and applying HR policies, procedures, employment practices, and applicable employment laws to support employees and managers.

  • Experience using a Human Capital Management system (HCM), such as Workday, to support accurate HR records, transactions, and data.

  • Demonstrated ability to assess complex or sensitive situations, exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and recognize when consultation or escalation is appropriate.

  • Experience working in higher education, the public sector, a large or decentralized organization, and/or a unionized environment.

  • Supervisory, team lead, or other demonstrated leadership experience.
