Senior Metal Fabricator

SALARY: $65-$70/hour

Astrion has an exciting opportunity for Senior Metal Fabricator located at the NASA Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, CA. Astrion seeking a highly skilled Metal Fabricator with specialized experience in precision fabrication of complex components, specifically for the ArcJet facility at NASA Ames Research Center.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Extensive experience with precision machining of complex metallic components.

  • Experience with high-temperature, high-current, or aerospace hardware preferred.

  • Proficiency in CNC machining, manual machining, and inspection methods.

  • Ability to design and document manufacturing processes.

  • Experience integrating machining equipment and establishing shop workflows.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to participate in engineering and quality reviews.

  • Superb verbal and written communication skills

  • Self-motivated and independent thinker with out-of-the-box ideas

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Experience working in aerospace, R&D environments, or government facilities.

  • Familiarity with thermal protection system components or arc jet facility hardware.

  • Experience fabricating or refurbishing electrodes or other specialty plasma hardware.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, establish, and equip a development shop, including procurement and integration of machining and inspection equipment.

  • Develop machining, inspection, and refurbishment processes

  • Fabricate a proof-of-concept, including all required connecting hardware, or produce documentation detailing the manufacturing process.

  • Refurbish previously used components to extend service life while meeting NASA quality standards.

  • Produce detailed manufacturing work instructions for build of components.

  • Support engineering design reviews, configuration control discussions, and quality assurance evaluations.

  • Ensure all work meets NASA safety, precision, and documentation requirements.

  • Ad-hoc support as required.
