Full job description

Skanska is searching for a dynamic Commissioning Manager. This is a great opportunity to start a career with a company that builds things that matter and values its team. We are proud to share our culture of diversity and inclusion.

Our work makes a clear contribution to society and the environment around us. We build in many different verticals. (https://www.usa.skanska.com/who-we-are/media/brochures/) Whether we are building schools to provide inspiring spaces for learning, roads to connect communities, or hospitals to care for patients, it all contributes to our purpose – we build for a better society.

Skanska's values — Be Better Together, Act Ethically and Transparently, Commit to Customers and Care for Life—are deeply ingrained in how we work, which is why our values support and drive our D&I efforts.

The Commissioning Manager leads and owns the commissioning (CX) program across all five levels for mission-critical facilities, primarily data centers. This role requires deep technical expertise in major electrical and mechanical systems—such as medium/high voltage equipment, BAS/BMS/EPMS procedures, load banking, NETA testing, HVAC test-and-balance, and sequence-of-operations—to ensure systems are installed, integrated, and operate to contract requirements. The Manager coordinates vendors and third-party teams, develops and manages detailed CX schedules, and serves as the primary on-site leader for commissioning activities and meetings.

Day-to-day responsibilities include planning and executing pre-energization inspections with QA/QC, enforcing LOTO and safety protocols with EHS and field supervision, reviewing commissioning scripts and technical documentation, and tracking functional defects through resolution. The Manager reviews third-party test reports (including load banking and IR scanning), manages third-party CX teams on site, and uses automated commissioning management software to document issues, minutes, and deliverables. Strong subcontractor oversight and quality-audit skills are applied to ensure workmanship, schedules, and deliverables meet project specifications and regulatory requirements.

Candidates must have hands-on experience across CX Levels 1–5 and proven ability to read and interpret complex MEP designs and technical details; a bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent experience (including relevant military training) is required. Proficiency with automated commissioning software, commissioning administration, scheduling, and stakeholder management is essential, and OSHA 10 certification is preferred. The ideal Manager is a subject-matter expert who coaches project teams, enforces quality and safety, and drives commissioning activities to timely, compliant closure.

Commissioning Manager Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ Years experience in all CX Levels (1-5) inspections, testing and commissioning of Electrical/Mechanical systems.

  • Has a detailed understanding of MEP system designs and how they integrate to meet the requirements outlined in the Contract Documents and Sequence of Operations.

  • 3+ Years experience with Automated Commissioning Management Software

  • 3+ Years of experience reading, reviewing, and interpreting technical details of high-value MEP equipment.

  • Bachelor’s Degree – Electrical/Mechnical Engineering or 8 years equivalent experience plus minimum 7 years prior relevant experience. Experience can be from Military service. Specifically the Navy Nuke or Electrician/HVAC Program.

Currently, the company is not considering applicants for this position who now or in the future require employment sponsorship by the company.
