Full job description

The mission of the Secretary of State's office is to serve the public by meeting its legal responsibilities of collecting, securing, and communicating information that enhances commerce, ensures the integrity of Louisiana's elections, and preserves, presents, and makes accessible government information essential to Louisiana's operations and its recorded history.

Operating as a core Systems Administrator, this IT Technical Specialist 1 or 2 will manage, secure, and optimize the agency's physical and virtual servers, virtual endpoints, directory/identity services, and managed service infrastructure. We are seeking a proactive professional with proven expertise in provisioning hypervisors, maintaining Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), and utilizing enterprise unified management software. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience managing identity and networking within managed services, supporting application development ecosystems, and executing robust endpoint security and backup strategies.Six years of experience in information technology; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus four years of experience in information technology; OR

An associate's degree in information technology plus four years of experience in information technology; OR

A bachelor’s degree plus four years of experience in information technology; OR

A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in an information technology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, or business analytics field plus three years of experience in information technology; OR

A master’s degree plus three years of experience in information technology.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

NOTE: A certification in an approved area may be substituted for the education and/or experience requirements at the time of hire or promotion, provided the appointment is made from a Certificate of Eligibles.   • Manage, secure, and optimize the agency's physical and virtual server infrastructure to ensure maximum uptime and performance.
  • Administer and support virtual endpoint infrastructures and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environments.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize directory/identity systems and foundational core networking infrastructure services.
  • Oversee daily operations, identity governance, and networking configurations within the agency’s managed service infrastructure environments.
  • Provide infrastructure support, resource provisioning, and configuration management for the application development ecosystem.
  • Utilize enterprise unified management software solutions to monitor, deploy, and audit system resources across the department.

Mandatory Skills:

  • Ability to use computer in daily work assignments.

  • Ability to communicate politely with user community.

  • Ability to communicate technical issues to a non-technical person.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds for equipment purposes.

  • Ability to walk, push, pull, bend, kneel, stretch, stoop, etc. in order to prepare, install, and maintain computer equipment.

  • Ability to use analytical skills and solve problems.

  • Ability to communicate in person, by phone and in writing.

  • Ability to meet deadlines.
