Full job description

Description

Do you want to work at the intersection of security, encryption and every internet-connected device in the world? We're looking for Software Development Engineers to build the services that help our customers secure their websites, APIs and devices with digital certificates that just work.

Our organization owns everything "certificates" for Amazon. That includes AWS Certificate Manager (ACM) for managing TLS and other X.509 certificates, AWS Private Certificate Authority (PCA) for private certificate issuance, and AWS Signer for code signing. Our services help customers create, manage, and deploy digital certificates based on strong cryptography and public-key infrastructure (PKI) best practices.

Certificate lifetimes are getting shorter and Post-Quantum cryptography is coming, while certificates now secure everything from IoT devices to AI agent workloads. Demand for content signing is growing as creators and publishers look for ways to prove their work is original. Customers need certificate management that runs without manual work at any scale. Certificates sit underneath almost every secure connection on the internet, so the systems you build here protect customer traffic across AWS.

We want engineers who question the status quo and push leadership and peers to do the right thing for the right reasons. Good ideas come from every level of the team, and we act on them.

You'll choose the right technology for the problem and learn AWS's distributed-systems and deployment-safety practices. If you don't know certificates or PKI yet, you'll learn them here.

Key job responsibilities

Design, build, and operate distributed services where security and availability can't be compromised.

Take ambiguous requirements, clarify the problem with customers and partner teams, and deliver the simplest design that solves it.

Own features end to end, from design through testing, deployment, and operations, and make trade-offs between new features and operational work.

Participate in on-call, find the root cause of production issues, and deliver permanent fixes rather than workarounds.

Improve how the team builds and operates software, including tooling, testing, and deployment safety.

Write clear design documents and system documentation, give design and code review feedback, and mentor other engineers.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 3+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience

  • 3+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience

  • 3+ years of Object Oriented Design experience

  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Experience implementing a cloud-based technology solution, or experience architecting/operating solutions built on AWS

  • Knowledge of one or more of the following domains: web application development, penetration testing, mobile security, cryptography, public key infrastructure, forensic security, IP security, SSL/TLS, computer viruses and malware, network security, trusted security, trusted execution, threat intelligence, IoT security implications, or authentication
