Job Description

Long Term Subs (LTS): A properly certified per diem substitute who works for the same teacher for 21–89 consecutive days is classified as a Long-Term Substitute. LTS pay begins on the first day of the assignment. Once the assignment ends, compensation reverts to the standard per diem rate.

  • LTS pay does not apply when substituting for a Teaching Assistant, covering only part of a teacher’s scheduled day, or when the substitute does not hold certification in the same subject area as the teacher.

  • LTS positions are determined by a teacher being on an approved Leave of Absence (LOA) of 21 working days or more, OR; in the case of an unexpected extended absence of a teacher, once the sub hits the 21st consecutive day, the LTS pay will be paid retroactively back to day one of the assignment.

  • In the event of a break in service during the assignment, the pay rate will revert to the per diem rate of $140 per day until 21 consecutive days are completed. After 21 consecutive days are worked, retroactive LTS pay will be issued effective from the beginning of that 21-day period.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must possess and retain an NYS Certified License as a Speech-Language Pathologist.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possess experience as a Speech Language Pathologist, with demonstrated opportunities to work with students with medical/health issues and/or developmental delays.

  • Certified, trained, or experienced in the area of Adaptive Behavioral Analysis (ABA).

  • Possess a strong understanding of Federal & State Mandates pertaining to supporting students with disabilities.

  • Possess demonstrated skill in Speech Language Assessment and the development of intervention plans and goals appropriate to address all facets of communication needs of the student.

  • Possess knowledge of the resources and supports available to assess the daily language skills and functioning of students with disabilities, particularly students with autism, cognitive and pervasive developmental delays.

  • Possess an ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team as well as schedule and coordinate intervention with a variety of service providers.

  • Possess knowledge of the resources and supports available to assess, design, train and monitor the use of assistive technology and augmentative communication devices.

  • Possess well-developed written and oral communication skills, and proven ability to interact positively with students, parents and colleagues.

  • Possess effective case management and resource management skills.

  • Possess demonstrated experience in applying research-based therapeutic and instructional methodologies when working with students with disabilities.
