Summary

This Part-Time position is located at the Middle School/Teen Center at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. A cut-off of 09/03/2026 will be used to send eligible applicants to management. Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Child and Youth Services (CYS) Employee Childcare Fee applicable to employees working at least 15 hours per week: First Child: 100% childcare fee discount (all CYS employees) Second and Subsequent Child: 25% childcare fee discount (all CYS employees)

Duties

  • Supervises an assigned team consisting of up to twelve ratios children/youth comprised of direct care professionals and volunteers. Serves as a first-level supervisor for assigned staff.
  • Conducts and review program evaluations of classroom and activity areas, identifying areas that need improvement, and establishing and implementing corrective action plans to address deficiencies within the prescribed timeframes.
  • May serve as the Manager on Duty assuming responsibilities and duties of the program Director or Assistant Director in their absence when assigned.
  • Works in conjunction with the Training Specialist and conducts written observations of assigned direct care professionals during all hours of operation and evaluates employees on established performance standards.
  • Resolves complaints related to personnel concerns; gives advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters; promotes and models safety, fitness, health, and nutrition practices.

Qualifications

Eligible candidates who apply by 03 September may be sent first for consideration. Resumes must be two pages (or less). Resumes should clearly demonstrate the applicant's relevant experience, skills, knowledge and abilities as they pertain to this position. A qualified candidate must possess the following: Education: Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in child development, early childhood education, elementary or secondary education, home economics (early childhood emphasis), elementary education, special education, or other fields appropriate to the position. - For positions in Youth Facilities: The education must have been in youth development, youth administration, secondary education, home economics, physical education, elementary education, special education or other fields appropriate to the position to be filled such as directly related behavioral science. OR A combination of education and experience. Education: 24 semester hours in the majors stated above or a related field (see above), plus appropriate experience. Experience: Candidate must also possess all of the following: 1. Six months experience supervising or leading caregivers within child/youth facility-based programs. 2.Experience managing in a classroom setting within child and youth programs. 3.Experience implementing and overseeing a structured child and youth program curriculum. 4.Demonstrated verbal communication skills gained through conducting training, delivering presentations, conducting meetings with parents and/or staff, or similar. In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" and may be sent first for consideration: Highly Preferred candidates will submit resumes reflecting ALL of the following experience: 2 years of experience in working with youth 12-18 years of age Experience facilitating Boys & Girls Clubs of America and/or 4H clubs 2 years of experience working with Army inspections
