Summary
About the Position: Performs onsite maintenance and independent certification of complex electronic air traffic control and communications systems, ensuring full functionality and compliance across remote tower platforms, landing aids, precision radar, voice systems, audio recording equipment, and air-to-ground communications.
Duties
- Diagnoses causes of equipment malfunctions applying advanced electronic theory, system analysis, complex test equipment, schematic and wiring diagrams, formulas and/or theories gained through classroom and on-the-job training.
- Maintains associated antenna system transmission lines and ground plane networks for communication and navigational aid facilities.
- Participates in and conducts site surveys to determine the best location of new or relocated air traffic control facilities.
- Engineers and installs wide area networks (WAN) using line drivers and fiber optics.
- Certifies air traffic control and navigational electronic equipment in accordance with applicable regulations and standards.

Specialized Experience GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes providing technical services by applying electronic theory or electronics engineering principles to test, and resolve operational problems on electronic equipment, systems, or components associated with air traffic control systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Time in Grade Requirement GS-11: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-10).
