Scope of Position:

The Kettle Coordinator provides day-to-day leadership for the annual Red Kettle Campaign and supports seasonal toy distribution activities. Working closely with the Corps Officer and other leaders, this position recruits, hires, schedules, supervises, and supports paid and volunteer bell ringers; coordinates kettle equipment and transportation; monitors daily operations; and helps ensure that the campaign is conducted safely, reliably, and in a manner consistent with The Salvation Army’s mission and standards.

Essential Job Duties

  • Recruit and help hire seasonal bell ringers in coordination with the Corps Officer and established hiring procedures.

  • Recruit and coordinate individual volunteers and volunteer groups.

  • Assist with applicant communication, interviews, required paperwork, onboarding, and orientation.

  • Clearly communicate job expectations, schedules, dress requirements, safety practices, and standards of conduct.

  • Maintain accurate staffing and scheduling records and promptly work to fill open shifts or unexpected absences.

Supervisor and Daily Support

  • Provide direct day-to-day supervision, instruction, and support to paid and volunteer bell ringers.

  • Check on ringers at each assigned kettle location daily, in person or by phone as appropriate, to confirm attendance, safety, supplies, and operational needs.

  • Monitor punctuality, attendance, appearance, conduct, and adherence to campaign procedures; address routine concerns and promptly report significant issues to the Corps Officer.

  • Rearrange coverage, provide breaks when directed, respond to call-outs, and help resolve location or scheduling problems.

  • Promote a respectful, safe, and mission-focused work environment for employees, volunteers, donors, store partners, and the public.

Kettle Campaign Operations

  • Coordinate paid and volunteer bell ringers and prepare daily schedules and assignments.

  • Pick up/drop off kettles or ensure that there is somebody ready to pick up and drop kettles off.

  • Assemble, organize, inventory, and maintain kettle stands, kettles, bells, aprons, signs, supply bags, and related campaign materials.

  • Deliver, set up, inspect, and retrieve kettles and equipment at assigned locations.

  • Pick up deposit slips and other campaign materials daily and deliver them according to established procedures.

  • Promptly and accurately enter kettle data to ensure payroll for bell ringers happens on time and track income appropriately.

  • Maintain regular communication with kettle locations and represent The Salvation Army professionally.

  • Drive a full-size cargo van or other approved vehicle for campaign and seasonal program needs, including transporting goods, equipment, and authorized people.

  • Pick up donated food, toys, and other items from stores, organizations, and individuals as assigned.

  • Assist with toy distribution and other Christmas-season operations as needed.

  • Complete related records, incident reports, mileage logs, schedules, and other required documentation.

  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Red Kettle Campaign, Christmas programs, and overall corps operations.

  • Help to close out and finalize the campaign by picking up and packing away kettle stands and kettles according to procedures established by the corps Officers.

Qualifications

  • Ability to supervise, train, encourage, and communicate effectively with employees and volunteers.

  • Valid Drivers License

  • Strong organizational, scheduling, problem-solving, and follow-through skills.

  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and respond calmly to changing needs.

  • Trustworthy, dependable, self-motivated, and able to follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Professional and courteous interpersonal, public speaking, and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work well with people from varied backgrounds and maintain appropriate confidentiality.

  • Flexible availability, including some early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.

  • Ability to safely operate a full-size cargo van, pass The Salvation Army driving test, and provide all required driving documentation.

  • Ability to maintain a safe working environment and follow established safety and cash-handling procedures.

Physical and Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift and move up to 70 pounds and to push, pull, reach, grasp, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, stand, and walk as needed to complete assigned duties.

  • Ability to enter and exit vehicles repeatedly, load and unload equipment and donations, and operate a motor vehicle safely.

  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors and may include exposure to cold, rain, wind, traffic, and changing seasonal conditions.

  • Requires close and distance visual acuity, hearing, speaking, and the ability to use a computer or mobile device for scheduling and communication.

Schedule

This is a temporary seasonal position scheduled for approximately 40 hours per week. Work will take place Tuesday to Saturday, for daytime and evening hours. There may also be some early mornings, weekends, holidays, variable hours, and overtime may be required based on campaign needs.
