Overview

REI Co-op is united around discovering, building and celebrating better ways of working in this world, all so that folks can find and pursue a love of the outdoors. When you work for the co-op, you do your best work with the support to live your best life. And you play a part in shaping the future of the outdoors, for people and our planet.

This Senior Financial Analyst role is a strategic finance partner to REI’s Impact and New Ventures teams, supporting business development, values-aligned partnerships, investments, and other emerging opportunities. Unlike a traditional FP&A role primarily focused on budgeting and forecasting, this position will navigate evolving and often non-traditional business areas, using financial modeling, business case development, and strategic analysis to help leaders evaluate opportunities, understand tradeoffs, and make informed business decisions.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

What You’ll Do

  • Lead proactive financial analysis by identifying business questions, locating relevant data and translating findings into clear recommendations.

  • Own the development and execution of strategic planning, budgeting and intra-year forecasting processes and tools.

  • Partner with department leaders to establish effective expense-management practices, identify meaningful performance measures and improve forecast accuracy.

  • Develop budget-justification analyses that help leadership review, prioritize and make informed operating-budget decisions.

  • Produce recurring co-op reporting, including Board materials, business reviews and key operational dashboards.

  • Evaluate the financial impact of strategic priorities and incorporate findings into long-range planning.

  • Prepare monthly reporting that explains profit-and-loss variances and supports updated forecasts.

  • Conduct lease-versus-buy analyses for equipment and facilities.

  • Develop profitability analyses for proposed investments, including new stores, expansions and relocations, and compare actual results with financial projections.

  • Prepare annual dividend analyses and projections related to potential policy changes.

  • Provide financial data and process explanations in support of internal and external audit requests.

  • Collaborate with Accounting, Finance colleagues, business leaders and budget owners to ensure accurate reporting and sound financial decision-making.

  • Lead special projects and communicate progress, risks and recommendations to partners and senior leaders.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or a related field.

  • At least five years of related experience in finance or accounting.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze and objectively solve complex business problems.

  • Ability to present financial analysis and recommendations to senior leaders in a clear and concise manner.

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment and effectively lead projects.

  • Demonstrated project-management skills and a track record of showing initiative and bringing forward innovative solutions.

  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy and follow-through.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to collaborate across teams, build productive relationships and influence decisions.

  • Ability to consolidate information and feedback from multiple sources to reach sound, data-informed conclusions.

  • Commitment to effective planning, prioritization, communication and execution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or a similar advanced degree or certification.

  • Experience using Essbase, SAP or comparable financial planning and enterprise resource planning systems.
