Job Description: The Transmission Mechanical Engineering Intern will be working on tasks in support of the staff mechanical design engineers. The goal will be to give them a solid introduction to the roles and responsibilites of a mechanical design engineer, and allow them to complete and report out on their own project during the course of their internship. The Transmission Mechanical Engineering Intern will assist with design, integration, and test of mechanical systems such as transmissions and gearboxes for military ground vehicles including tanks, self propelled artillery, and infanty fighting vehicles. Projects may include any stage of the product development cycle including research, design, modeling & analysis, prototyping, and testing (bench, dyno, or vehicle). The Transmission Mechanical Engineering Intern will work under close supervision of a Mentor.

Essential Functions:

  • Transmission or gear box engineering tasks as assigned by Mentor or other design engineers on the team

  • Support the development of CAD models and drawings

  • Perform minor mechanical, hydraulic, and thermal analyses

  • Support requirements derivation and verification

  • Assist with test plan generation

  • Support test activities including bench, dynamometer, and vehicle level testing

  • Perform data analysis

  • Participate in root cause failure analysis investigations on mechanical systems

Qualifications:

  • Completed at least 2 years in pursuit of a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Junior or Senior status)

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and/or Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides)

  • Good written and verbal communication

  • Must be able to move freely, with or without reasonable accommodation, throughout a manufacturing environment.

Preferred Addtional Skills:

  • PTC CREO or other CAD software

  • GD&T knowledge

  • Ability to perform engineering calculations such as mechanical stress, thermal/heat transfer, fluids

  • Ability to participate in technical discussions, complete assignments within budget and schedule, and work with minimal supervision

  • Ability to manage and organize multiple project tasks to meet established deadlines

Position Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in an accredited BSME program with a Jr. or Sr. status and a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.

  • Creo modeling
