Full job description

A Snapshot of Your Day

As the Factory Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in building the reliable data foundation for our new Large Power Transformer factory in Charlotte, NC. You will develop and maintain data pipelines, integrations, and scalable data infrastructure that connect operational and enterprise data and make it accessible for analytics, reporting, and digital manufacturing solutions.

This role is based in Charlotte, North Carolina and closely connected to on-site operations. You will work side-by-side with manufacturing, operations, digitalization, IT data teams, system owners, and external vendors. If you enjoy solving complex integration challenges and turning fragmented factory data into dependable, well-documented data products, this role offers a unique opportunity to shape the data foundation of a factory of the future.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Build reliable data foundations by designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data ingestion pipelines and integrations for factory operations.

  • Connect critical data sources, integrating operational and enterprise systems including MES, SAP, PLM, IIoT connectors, APIs, and other factory platforms.

  • Enable the Factory Data Cloud, supporting its architecture, data flows, and dependable use as a foundation for analytics and digital solutions.

  • Improve data accessibility, making trusted data available to analysts, process owners, and digital use cases while supporting appropriate access controls.

  • Strengthen data quality and reliability by implementing quality checks, monitoring data availability, troubleshooting failures, and addressing source-system issues.

  • Document data assets and interfaces, maintaining clear technical documentation for pipelines, mappings, dependencies, and data definitions.

  • Partner across functions, working with the Digital Transformation Officer, Data Analyst, IT data teams, operations, and MES/SAP/PLM system owners to translate business needs into sustainable data solutions.

  • Coordinate integration delivery, managing dependencies with internal stakeholders and external vendors and proactively addressing risks caused by non-harmonized sources or access constraints.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, systems integration, industrial data, automation, or a related role, preferably in manufacturing or another operational environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Automation, Industrial Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Hands-on experience developing and maintaining data pipelines, integrations, and scalable data infrastructure.

  • Strong working knowledge of SQL, APIs, data platforms, and data integration patterns.

  • Experience integrating enterprise and operational systems; exposure to MES, SAP, PLM, IIoT, or factory data platforms is strongly preferred.

  • Experience implementing data quality checks, monitoring data availability, troubleshooting integration issues, and maintaining technical documentation.

  • Strong problem-solving and systems-thinking skills, with a reliable and methodical approach to delivery.

  • Experience with modern cloud-based data platforms (Azure preferred), AWS, Snowflake, Python, SQL, ETL/ELT frameworks, and industrial connectivity technologies such as OPC UA, MQTT, or similar platforms is preferred.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders and collaborate across operations, IT, digitalization, and external partners.

  • Candidates must be willing to relocate to Charlotte, NC, if they are not already based in the area.

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
