Burn Procedure Charge RN - PRN, 7A

Work location: Texas Health Fort Worth, 1304 Pennsylvania Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76104

Work hours: PRN/per diem, Day shift, 6:45 am - 7:15 pm

Position highlights:

The Burn Procedure RN is a specialized nursing role responsible for coordinating and facilitating burn wound care procedures for patients admitted to the STPCU Burn Unit. This position serves as the primary clinician for the hydrotherapy (tank room) program and plays a critical role in ensuring safe, timely, and effective burn dressing changes across the unit.

Department highlights:

  • Justin 5 is a 26‑bed Surgical Trauma Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Burn Unit. 18 beds are for Surgical Trauma or BurnPCU patients and 8 beds are for Med-Tele Burn Patients. This unit provides higher‑acuity surgical trauma and burn care, including treatment in a dedicated hydrotherapy procedure room for the burn population. Although patient populations differ, this is one integrated unit, and staff are expected to work across both care areas.

  • Nurse to patient ratio 1: 3-4

Here's What You Need

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred

  • Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire

  • BCLS - prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly

  • ACLS - within 90 days of hire required

  • TNCC or ATCN - within 12 months of hire preferred

  • CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training - within 90 days of hire

  • 1-year experience as a registered nurse in an acute care setting required

  • 2-year experience as a registered nurse in an acute care setting preferred

  • PCU experience preferred

  • Burn unit experience a plus

What you will do

The Charge Nurse for the Burn Procedure area will:

  • Coordinate and manage the daily schedule and patient throughput for the hydrotherapy room.

  • Perform comprehensive burn wound assessments and wound care, including hydrotherapy treatments.

  • Serve as the care coordinator for burn dressing changes throughout the Burn Unit, including patients receiving bedside wound care outside of the hydrotherapy room.

  • Collaborate closely with Burn Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), Wound Care Technicians, and bedside nursing staff to coordinate treatment plans based on patient needs and clinical acuity

  • Promote continuity of care by ensuring appropriate communication between interdisciplinary team members and supporting efficient progression of daily treatment schedules.

  • Monitor patient responses to treatment, identify changes in condition, and escalate concerns to the burn care team as appropriate.

  • Support staff education related to burn wound care and dressing change procedures

  • possess a strong work ethic and always display a high level of professionalism

  • have basic computer skills using medical management application systems
