Kubernetes Administrator
Location: Annapolis, MD
Work Arrangement: Hybrid, primarily on-site
Schedule: Monday through Friday, typically three days on-site and two days remote. Schedule may vary based on coverage needs.
Employment Type: Contract-to-hire with potential extension
U.S. CITIZENSHIP IS REQUIRED
Candidates must be U.S. citizens. This is a firm, non-negotiable requirement. Candidates must also be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
Candidates must live within approximately one hour of Annapolis, MD and be able to support a hybrid schedule that is primarily on-site.
Position Overview
A large aerospace and aviation technology organization is seeking an experienced Kubernetes Administrator to support a mission-critical messaging and application environment. The organizations connected aviation network supports more than 1,500 aviation customers and processes over 75 million messages each day.
This individual will administer and improve production Kubernetes environments operating across bare-metal and on-premises infrastructure. The ideal candidate has strong Kubernetes and Linux administration experience and is comfortable troubleshooting infrastructure, networking, storage, containerized applications, and physical hardware.
This is a hands-on position for someone who can manage both Kubernetes cluster operations and occasional on-site infrastructure responsibilities.
Primary Responsibilities

Administer, maintain, and optimize production Kubernetes clusters in bare-metal and on-premises environments

Manage Kubernetes nodes, control planes, networking, storage integrations, and workload orchestration
-
Perform cluster upgrades, patching, configuration changes, performance tuning, and resilience testing
-
Implement and manage logging, monitoring, alerting, Kubernetes Operators, CNI plugins, CSI storage drivers, and RBAC policies
-
Develop container deployment standards, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code practices
-
Partner with application development teams to containerize applications and create reliable, automated deployment processes
-
Establish monitoring and alerting for cluster health and application performance
-
Implement high-availability, backup, restore, and disaster-recovery solutions
-
Manage certificates, TLS enforcement, pod security, audit controls, and configuration standards
-
Troubleshoot Kubernetes networking, scheduling, storage, connectivity, resource utilization, and application issues
-
Support on-site hardware activities, including racking equipment, cabling, provisioning hardware, and installing cluster nodes
-
Lift equipment weighing up to 40 pounds when required
Required Qualifications
-
Must be a U.S. citizen

Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future

Must live within approximately one hour of Annapolis, MD

Hands-on experience administering Kubernetes clusters in production environments
-
Strong Linux command-line and troubleshooting experience
-
Experience with container runtimes, Linux namespaces, and network troubleshooting
-
Working knowledge of routing, firewalls, subnetting, and load balancing
-
Experience working with Linux distributions such as RHEL and Ubuntu
-
Ability to create shell scripts and automation tools for Kubernetes operations
-
Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, connectivity, and containerized workloads
-
Ability to work independently in a cross-functional environment
-
Ability to support occasional off-hours work and a 24x7 rotating on-call schedule

Ability to work a hybrid schedule that is primarily on-site in Annapolis
Education and Experience
Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:
-
Bachelors degree in a STEM field with at least three years of relevant experience
-
Advanced degree in a related field with at least two years of relevant experience
-
At least seven years of relevant experience in place of a degree
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience with Docker, Helm, Kustomize, Kubernetes Operators, Prometheus, and Grafana
-
Experience with distributed storage appliances, including TrueNAS or FreeNAS
-
Knowledge of NAS and iSCSI integrations with Kubernetes
-
Experience with Git or other configuration-management systems
-
Experience supporting air-gapped environments
-
Experience implementing Kubernetes security, monitoring, automation, and disaster-recovery practices
Important Requirements
U.S. citizenship is mandatory. Candidates requiring sponsorship or candidates who are not U.S. citizens cannot be considered.
This role also requires candidates to live within commuting distance of Annapolis, support a primarily on-site hybrid schedule, participate in a rotating on-call schedule, and occasionally assist with physical infrastructure work.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Annapolis, MD.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
