Full job description

Seattle, WA

Full time

R-42564

Location:

1301 5th Avenue, Seattle Washington

OVERVIEW:

The Retail Territory Executive - West reports directly to the Head of Retail Banking and leads retail performance across Key's West Territory: Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah and Colorado. The role has direct accountability for branches across two regions. This is a growth mandate, not a turnaround of a broken business. The executive will accelerate quality relationship-household and deposit growth, improve productivity in smaller and less mature branches, expand market share, and translate Key's relationship banking value proposition into locally relevant execution. The role leads Regional Retail Leaders and the broader field organization, drives disciplined performance management and Branch Playbook execution, and shapes the West's branch segmentation, de novo and market-development strategies. Success requires a visible field leader who brings grit, commercial judgment and urgency; can evaluate spans of control and operating structure; and can marshal resources across Marketing, Product, Pricing, Network Planning, Talent, Staffing and partner businesses to remove obstacles and deliver sustained growth.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Lead the West Territory's Regional Retail Leaders and field organization, establishing clear priorities, operating rhythms and accountability for consistent execution across diverse markets.

  • Accelerate quality relationship-household, primary checking and deposit growth across both established and lower-productivity branches, with particular focus on improving performance in immature and underpenetrated Western markets.

  • Create a disciplined performance management culture through inspection, coaching and execution of the Branch Playbook and Financial Wellness Reviews; diagnose root causes and act decisively to close performance gaps.

  • Own the West growth agenda across organic expansion, de novo, acquisition and branch productivity; translate market opportunity and branch-segmentation insights into specific investment cases and execution plans.

  • Evaluate the territory's organization, spans of control and leadership capacity, and make changes when needed to improve field effectiveness, speed and accountability.

  • Lead from the field by maintaining a strong presence across the territory, understanding the distinct dynamics of each market and building credibility with teammates, clients and community partners.

  • Partner with the East Territory Executive and headquarters leaders to align priorities, sequence initiatives and secure resources while minimizing competing demands on the field.

  • Quarterback relationships with Key Investment Services and Wealth, Business Banking, Mortgage and other Consumer partners to deepen client relationships and deliver integrated market growth.

  • Build and leverage relationships with Regional Sales Executives and Market Presidents across Commercial and Private Banking to connect Consumer priorities with broader local-market strategies.

  • Influence senior leaders across Marketing, Product, Pricing, Distribution and Network Planning by developing and defending clear business cases for West investments, campaigns, products, staffing and market-specific tactics.

  • Build a high-performing, inclusive leadership team through proactive talent assessment, succession planning, recruiting, coaching, recognition and development; maintain a strong external talent pipeline.

  • Ensure operational excellence, sound risk management and clear first-line-of-defense accountability while sustaining Key's client- and teammate-centered culture.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in business or a related field required or proven, equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum 12 years of progressive leadership experience in retail or consumer banking, including significant leadership of leaders.

  • Demonstrated success leading a complex, multi-market or multi-state branch organization at meaningful scale; experience overseeing 100 or more branches strongly preferred.

  • Proven record of delivering quality deposit, relationship-household, revenue and market-share growth in competitive and highly regulated markets.

  • Experience materially improving underperforming, immature or underpenetrated markets through disciplined field execution, talent actions and locally relevant growth strategies.

  • Direct experience leading de novo expansion, new-market entry, branch optimization or comparable acquisition-growth work preferred; must be able to distinguish personal leadership and execution from participation or sponsorship.

  • Strong retail-banking foundation spanning branch sales and service, operations, talent, risk and client experience; broader experience in Business Banking, Mortgage, Wealth, Product or Marketing is preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to set strategy and carry it through end to end, including building the business case, securing resources, leading change and measuring outcomes.

  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and mobilize resources outside direct authority across Marketing, Product, Pricing, Network Planning and partner lines of business.

  • Strong financial and business acumen, including P&L orientation, investment judgment and the ability to connect market data, operating metrics and talent insights to action.

  • Visible, resilient field leader with executive presence, sound judgment, a high degree of personal accountability and the ability to make difficult decisions while sustaining stakeholder commitment.

  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively across the West Territory. Location within the territory is strongly preferred, with Denver preferred because of access across the footprint; Seattle, Portland or Salt Lake City may also be considered.

  • Full understanding of first-line-of-defense responsibilities and interdependencies with the second line of defense. Employees in this job must comply with all applicable requirements of the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 (SAFE Act).

Competencies and Skills:

  • Growth-minded, sales-oriented and energized by building share in markets with significant upside; brings the grit and urgency to roll up their sleeves and improve performance branch by branch.

  • Strategic and analytical thinker who connects the dots, challenges assumptions and converts data and market insight into clear priorities and practical execution.

  • Inspirational communicator who can tell the West growth story, create belief, motivate field teams and adjust messages for branch teammates, executives and external stakeholders.

  • Disciplined operator who sets clear routines, inspects what matters, coaches consistently and follows through on commitments.

  • Enterprise collaborator who builds trust across organizational boundaries, influences without direct authority and balances territory needs with broader Consumer and Key priorities.

  • Talent builder who accurately assesses leaders, raises performance standards, develops successors and attracts strong internal and external talent.

  • Client- and teammate-centered leader who pursues growth without compromising quality, culture, integrity or risk discipline.
