Job Title: Engine Technician

Job Description

Join our team as an Engine Technician and collaborate with engineers in the Propulsion Labs. You will engage in engine development, calibration, mechanical experiments, and component fabrication. Your work will contribute to optimizing engine performance and testing engine durability.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers to conduct engine calibration development and mechanical experiments.

  • Swap engine components to test combinations for optimal performance.

  • Utilize AVL/PUMA and emissions equipment in a laboratory setting.

  • Perform engine tuning and calibration using HP Tuners or standalone systems.

  • Run and operate manual testing on a dynamometer.

  • Work with Test Engineers to adjust fuel tables, air-intake, spark, and exhaust for optimal engine performance.

  • Conduct component-level work including modifications and fabrications.

  • TIG weld parts and components as needed.

  • Build and assemble engines on a U-shaped hovercraft, adding various components and instrumentation.

Essential Skills

  • 3-5 years of experience with engine dynamometer operations.

  • Hands-on experience with engine rebuild, teardown, assembly, repair, and troubleshooting.

  • Proficiency in using HP Tuners and standalone systems for engine calibration.

  • Knowledge of AVL/PUMA and emissions testing equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a relevant field.

  • Experience in laboratory settings focusing on testing and development.

  • Familiarity with engine table tuning programs and calibration techniques.

  • Experience with welding and fabrication.

Work Environment

The position operates in a state-of-the-art test lab and garage, known for its cleanliness and advanced engineering headquarters. The facility offers a full-service cafeteria open from 6 am to 2:30 pm, is air-conditioned, and features ample parking, although some walking may be required to reach the building. Technicians will need their own basic tools, while GM provides the toolbox and any specialty tools.

This is a Contract position based out of PONTIAC, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
