Full job description

Under limited supervision provide direct technical assistance to firms certified as Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBE)/Small Business Enterprises (SBE), conduct onsite reviews related to Commercially Useful Function (CUF) and DBE certification, and assist DBE/SBE firms with improving their business opportunities.

Serves as a Technical Advisor for DBE/SBE firms by performing civil engineering inspections/technical assistance relating to highway, road and bridge construction. Ensures construction work conforms to generally accepted civil construction theories, principles and practices.

Reviews complaints from DBE/SBE firms with Supervisor and Chief Technical Advisor to determine solutions; assists DBE/SBE firms with the communication process to resolve issues as necessary and generate reports accordingly; coordinates with SCDOT Legal Department as needed.

Attends various preconstruction conferences, letting reviews, project status meetings and other meetings as appropriate.

Maintains weekly log of daily events, keeps Supervisor and Chief Technical Advisor abreast of issues with all firms.

Prepares written and oral reports as required; conducts onsite reviews; accomplishes all other tasks as assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned.

A high school diploma and two (2) years of progressively responsible engineering technician related experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.

The physical demands for the essential functions involves frequent bending, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May require occasional exposure to noise. May require working outside of normal work schedules and weekends.
