Full job description

The purpose of this classification is to perform advanced level technical duties in systems and solution design, database administration and data analysis within the Fire department. Supervises, directs and evaluates assigned employees, processing concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining and completing employee performance appraisals; supervises the day-to-to day operations of the planning and technology unit in fire; coordinates daily work activities; organizes and prioritizes workload; makes work assignments; provides training; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work; and provides technical expertise. Creates and maintains planning division systems, solutions, and application servers; designs database tables, stored procedures, queries, and other products as needed. Participates in unit training and testing in job knowledge and skill sets necessary for the work; ensures the continued maintenance of all required certifications. Functions in a senior capacity for technical staff by providing lead worker training and guidance in essential functions of the work; receives, responds to, and investigates data requests. Performs data analysis and interprets findings; prepares and submits reports; ensures accuracy and completeness; ensures adherence to standards for proper language, grammar, and spelling, as well as appropriate methodology. Monitors and tracks information through databases for the purpose of identifying and evaluating any unusual trends. Maintains confidential files; interacts with various other professional, judicial, investigative, insurance, the media, and public and private agencies in support of data requests, to ensure accurate and thorough information exchanges. Maintains current knowledge of trends and developments in the field for application to functional areas of responsibility. Maintains attendance and punctuality within customary tolerances for this position. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related technical field; five years of experience with a public safety agency; two years of supervisory experience; experience working with databases and data driven solutions; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds). If a sworn firefighter position: Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials.

Sensory Requirements

Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors

Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
