Full job description

Description We are looking for an experienced Operational Risk Analyst to support insurance, claims, and risk management activities for a real estate-focused asset management environment in Dana Point, California. This position plays a key role in protecting the portfolio by strengthening insurance program oversight, improving claim outcomes, and reducing operational exposure across managed properties. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical judgment, knowledge of risk transfer practices, and the ability to work closely with leadership, brokers, carriers, and third-party property managers.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the yearly renewal cycle for multiple insurance programs by gathering underwriting information, reviewing coverage details, and helping assess options that improve protection and cost effectiveness.

  • Oversee property and liability claims from initial notification through closure, coordinating with brokers, insurers, adjusters, and internal stakeholders to keep matters moving efficiently.

  • Organize and review claim documentation such as incident records, photographs, estimates, invoices, and correspondence to ensure complete and timely submissions.

  • Track litigation, demand response deadlines, coverage positions, and reserve activity, escalating issues when claim handling or insurer performance creates additional risk.

  • Examine loss trends across the portfolio to identify recurring causes, high-exposure assets, and opportunities to reduce future incidents.

  • Partner with property management teams to strengthen prevention efforts related to water damage, premises liability, safety, security, and other common property risks.

  • Review management, vendor, and contractor agreements to confirm appropriate indemnity, insurance, and risk transfer provisions are in place.

  • Maintain oversight of certificates of insurance for third-party partners, verifying compliance before property access or service activity begins.

  • Assist with insurance and risk-related audit requests, lender documentation, and transaction due diligence for acquisitions, refinancings, and dispositions.

  • Monitor property management reporting performance, enforce incident escalation standards, and provide risk-focused feedback on recurring operational weaknesses. Requirements • 5+ years of experience in operational risk, insurance, claims management, or a related risk function.

  • Background supporting insurance programs and claim activity involving property, liability, or other commercial lines of coverage.

  • Knowledge of contract risk transfer concepts, including indemnification language and insurance compliance requirements.

  • Ability to analyze loss data, conduct risk assessments, and identify patterns that may indicate control failures or potential fraud.

  • Familiarity with fraud analytics, anti-fraud practices, or investigative risk review methodologies.

  • Understanding of regulatory and compliance considerations, with the ability to monitor changing requirements and their business impact.

  • Strong organizational skills with experience maintaining accurate tracking records, reports, and supporting documentation.

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with brokers, carriers, legal counsel, lenders, and third-party operators.
