At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us challenge the status quo and transform the finance industry together. We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s).

As a Sr. Manager, Software Development & Engineering, People Leader, you will lead teams that build and support secure, reliable, customer-focused Schwab Mobile experiences. You will work with engineers, SDETs, product partners, and other technology teams to deliver native iOS and Android capabilities across key customer experiences, including Bill Pay, Money Transfers, Check Deposit, Manage Cards, and Crypto Transfers.

This role requires strong people leadership, technical judgment, and the ability to manage delivery across multiple teams and technology domains. You will help set priorities, develop engineering talent, manage delivery risks, and ensure teams build solutions that meet Schwab standards for security, quality, accessibility, performance, and resiliency.

You will partner closely with Product, Design, Architecture, Cybersecurity, API and platform teams, QA, and business stakeholders. You will also help advance the use of approved AI-enabled development practices, including GitHub Copilot, to improve code quality, test automation, documentation, and engineering productivity.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and develop engineers, SDETs, and technical leads supporting Schwab Mobile.

  • Deliver native mobile experiences that support critical financial capabilities, including Bill Pay, Money Transfers, Check Deposit, Manage Cards, and Crypto Transfers.

  • Support technical direction for iOS and Android applications, including architecture, modernization, performance, security, accessibility, resiliency, and production support.

  • Manage projects across multiple technology domains, including native mobile applications, backend services, APIs, cloud platforms, data, security, and third-party integrations.

  • Partner with Product and business leaders to establish priorities, manage scope, communicate risks, and make informed delivery tradeoffs.

  • Ensure teams implement secure API integrations using OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, API gateways, token management, and authorization controls.

  • Drive adoption of modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, observability, release management, and production support.

  • Establish quality and operational practices that reduce defects, improve release readiness, and strengthen the mobile customer experience.

  • Use GitHub Copilot and other approved AI-enabled tools to improve engineering productivity, code quality, test automation, documentation, and delivery workflows.

  • Build an inclusive and accountable team culture focused on talent development, clear ownership, continuous improvement, and high-quality customer experiences.

What you have

Required Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of software engineering experience, including experience leading or mentoring development teams.

  • Experience leading or supporting native mobile application development for iOS and Android.

  • Familiarity with iOS technologies, including Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit, Xcode, XCTest, and dependency management.

  • Familiarity with Android technologies, including Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Android SDK, Android Studio, Gradle, and Espresso.

  • Experience supporting financial applications or customer capabilities such as Bill Pay, Money Transfers, Check Deposit, Manage Cards, Crypto Transfers, digital wallets, or similar experiences.

  • Experience managing projects across multiple technology domains, including native mobile applications, backend services, APIs, cloud platforms, data, security, and third-party integrations.

  • Experience with API development and integration patterns, including REST APIs, API gateways, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, token management, and authorization controls.

  • Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, mobile release management, observability, production support, and incident management.

  • Experience using GitHub Copilot or other approved AI-enabled tools to improve developer productivity, code quality, testing, documentation, or engineering workflows.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop people, build strong working relationships, manage delivery risks, and create accountability.

  • Strong communication, decision-making, project-management, and stakeholder-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in financial services, fintech, or another highly regulated industry.

  • Experience supporting mobile applications that require strong security, fraud prevention, privacy, compliance, and accessibility controls.

  • Prior hands-on development experience in iOS, Android, backend API development, or cloud engineering.

  • Experience with microservices, event-driven architecture, cloud platforms, and API modernization.

  • Experience leading mobile modernization, resiliency improvements, technical-debt reduction, or engineering transformation work.

  • Experience defining and reviewing engineering health metrics, including quality, reliability, delivery predictability, production defects, and developer productivity.

  • Experience leading AI-enabled engineering initiatives, including GitHub Copilot adoption, test automation, agent-based workflows, or developer productivity improvements.
