Job Description

Reporting to the President and CEO and serving on the senior leadership team, the Vice President, Distribution & New Revenue leads WNET's strategy for where its content goes, what it earns, and how the audiences it reaches become members and donors. The role brings programming, rights and clearances, research and distribution together with one goal: to grow the revenue and measurable reach that WNET earns from its content across broadcast, streaming and the library. Working in close partnership with Digital, Marketing, Development, Production, Legal, and Finance, the Vice President ensures every title has a distribution, rights, and revenue plan from greenlight forward.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Leads programming strategy across broadcast and digital, and oversees the Senior Director, Programming in scheduling all linear content for THIRTEEN, WLIW21 and ALL ARTS;

Joins new productions at greenlight with audience insight and a distribution, rights and revenue plan, in partnership with Production and the national program teams;

Determines where each title goes, including platform, window and sequence, across broadcast, Passport, YouTube, FAST, OTT, podcasts and social platforms;

Recommends WNET's distribution and windowing positions with PBS, and works with PBS and other producing stations to advance them;

Builds and maintains a single rights ledger for new and archival content, and partners with Legal and Production to secure rights for new content and manage renewals and acquisitions;

Builds and leads a library licensing program, including clip, footage, educational and catalog licensing to AVOD, SVOD and international buyers;

Leads WNET's FAST channel strategy and develops carriage, spectrum and platform partnerships across the stations;

Develops a channel and platform plan for each national franchise, and partners with Development on digital sponsorship and platform revenue;

Partners with Marketing and Development to turn distributed audiences into members and donors, with attribution from platform to Passport and a shared conversion goal;

Works with the Managing Editor, Integrated Initiatives and Digital Content on a shared roadmap and shared performance targets for Passport, program, podcast and station-specific apps;

Sets the organization's measurement standard for broadcast and digital reach, and delivers a monthly content investment scorecard that guides decisions on what to make, keep, renew and fund;

Provides data and analysis to the CEO on content acquisitions and new initiatives, and gives Development title-level evidence of reach and impact for major gift and foundation proposals;

Other relevant duties, as assigned.

The ideal candidate is a senior media executive who has built audiences and revenue at scale and works naturally alongside editorial and creative teams. Additional qualifications include:

15 or more years of experience in content distribution, audience development, programming or media business development, including senior leadership of multi-platform video businesses;

Proven record of building audiences on YouTube, OTT and social platforms and turning that reach into revenue through licensing, sponsorship, subscription or membership;

Experience with rights and clearances, library monetization, syndication or content licensing; Fluency in broadcast and digital measurement, including attribution, retention and lifetime value;

A collaborative style and a track record of advocating for reach and revenue in editorially serious, mission-driven environments;

Demonstrated ability to make programming and distribution decisions based on data, experience and an understanding of audience trends.
