Full job description

Location: Anywhere in Country

At EY, we’re all in to shape your future with confidence.

We’ll help you succeed in a globally connected powerhouse of diverse teams and take your career wherever you want it to go. Join EY and help to build a better working world.

Our goal is to give clients a unique business perspective on how SAP technology can enhance their operations. By leveraging EY’s expertise in SAP, Supply Chain, FICO, BPC, Data & Analytics, Customer Solutions, Technology & Architecture, and SuccessFactors, we assist clients in enhancing performance and increasing productivity.

The opportunity

We are looking for an innovative SAP professional to join our Technology Consulting team, specializing in SAP Variant Configuration within the Core Supply Chain capability. In this role, you will help clients design and implement scalable product configuration solutions that connect sales, engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain processes across SAP S/4HANA.

You will work with business and technology stakeholders to assess configurable product models, gather and analyze requirements, and translate them into functional designs. You will lead the delivery of SAP Variant Configuration solutions, including product modeling, configuration logic, pricing dependencies, integration, testing, data migration, and deployment. You will also collaborate with technical teams to ensure solutions meet business requirements and align with the broader SAP architecture.

Your key responsibilities

As a Manager in Technology Analysis, you will lead complex SAP Variant Configuration initiatives and guide teams through solution design, implementation, and deployment. You will address challenges that require strong analytical judgment, cross-functional coordination, and practical knowledge of configurable products. This role requires regular travel to meet client needs.

  • Lead SAP Variant Configuration workstreams from planning and design through testing, deployment, and stabilization.

  • Facilitate client workshops to assess current-state processes, define future-state requirements, and recommend SAP S/4HANA best practices for configurable products.

  • Design and oversee end-to-end variant configuration solutions, including configurable materials, classes, characteristics, configuration profiles, and object dependencies.

  • Lead product modeling and configuration governance, ensuring models are maintainable, reusable, scalable, and aligned with business rules.

  • Guide the design of Advanced Variant Configuration capabilities in SAP S/4HANA and evaluate fit with classic Variant Configuration based on client requirements.

  • Coordinate integration across Sales and Distribution, Production Planning, Materials Management, Product Lifecycle Management, pricing, engineering, and manufacturing processes.

  • Oversee functional specifications, configuration, data conversion, unit testing, system integration testing, user acceptance testing, cutover, and post-production support.

  • Manage onshore and offshore team members, project milestones, risks, issues, dependencies, and delivery quality.

  • Cultivate trusted relationships with client stakeholders and clearly communicate solution decisions, project status, risks, and results.

Skills and attributes for success

To thrive in this role, you will need a blend of SAP functional expertise, product modeling knowledge, leadership, and client-facing skills. Your ability to simplify complex configuration requirements and build alignment across business and technical teams will be critical to delivering exceptional client service.

On a typical engagement, you will collaborate with product engineering, sales, manufacturing, supply chain, master data, and technology stakeholders to assess configurable product requirements and advise on SAP capabilities. You will lead requirements gathering, fit-to-standard design, solution modeling, testing, documentation, and deployment while overseeing integrations with related SAP and non-SAP systems.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex product rules into sustainable SAP configuration models.

  • Proven ability to manage engagement economics, resource planning, delivery risks, and project priorities.

  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing change in complex transformation environments.

  • Ability to identify opportunities for additional services and lead specific RFP responses.

To qualify for the role, you must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree (4-year degree).

  • Typically, no less than 4 - 6 years of relevant experience in SAP-enabled manufacturing, product configuration, engineering, or order-to-production environments.

  • A minimum of 3 years of hands-on SAP Variant Configuration experience, including designing and configuring materials, characteristics, classes, configuration profiles, and object dependencies.

  • Experience designing and configuring product models using configurable materials, classes, characteristics, class types, configuration profiles, object dependencies, constraints, procedures, preconditions, and selection conditions.

  • Experience integrating Variant Configuration with SAP Sales and Distribution, Production Planning, Materials Management, pricing, bills of material, routings, and master data.

  • A proven track record of leading teams to deliver project outcomes within critical deadlines.

  • Experience managing an SAP project or workstream and project-based team members in manufacturing or engineer-to-order environments.

  • Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, client service, and technical writing skills.

  • Flexibility and willingness to travel to meet client needs; travel is estimated at 40-60%.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Consulting experience with a focus on leading SAP transformation projects and cross-functional delivery teams.

  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA Advanced Variant Configuration, including knowledge of its capabilities, modeling approach, and differences from classic Variant Configuration.

  • Experience with Variant Configuration and Pricing services, SAP Commerce Cloud, CPQ solutions, or integration of configurable products across digital sales channels.

  • Experience with SAP Product Lifecycle Management, Engineering Change Management, Document Management System, product structures, classification, and engineering-to-manufacturing integration.

  • Experience supporting make-to-order, engineer-to-order, assemble-to-order, or configure-to-order business processes.

  • Experience with at least three full-cycle SAP implementations involving Variant Configuration or configurable product solutions.

  • SAP certification in SAP S/4HANA manufacturing, sales, product lifecycle management, or a related solution area.
