Position Summary:
The Audio-Visual (AV) Manager provides leadership and technical oversight for audio-visual services across the institution. This position manages the planning, implementation, operation, maintenance, and support of AV technologies used in classrooms, lecture halls, conference rooms, auditoriums, events, meetings, and other instructional and administrative spaces.
The AV Manager works collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, Information Technology, facilities, academic departments, and campus leadership to ensure reliable, accessible, and user-friendly AV environments that support teaching, learning, research, events, and institutional activities.
Duties & Responsibilities:
AV Operations and Support
-
Manage day-to-day operations of campus audio-visual services.

Provide technical support for classrooms, meeting spaces, lecture halls, auditoriums, and special events.

Oversee installation, configuration, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of AV systems.
-
Respond to service requests and technical issues in a timely manner.
-
Provide on-site support for high-profile events, lectures, conferences, ceremonies, and institutional programs.

Develop procedures for AV system operation, troubleshooting, and emergency response.
Leadership
-
Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate AV staff, technicians, student employees, and/or contracted personnel.

Establish service standard operating procedures including workflows, priorities, and performance expectations.
-
Coordinate staffing and technical support for campus events and academic activities.
-
Promote professional development and continuing education for AV staff.
-
Classroom and Learning Technology
-
Partner with academic and instructional technology teams to support technology-enhanced teaching and learning.
-
Evaluate classroom AV environments and recommend improvements.
-
Support video conferencing, streaming, presentation systems, digital displays, microphones, projectors, and related technologies.
-
Assist faculty and staff with the effective use of instructional AV technology.

Help develop standards for new and renovated instructional spaces.
System Design and Project Management
-
Participate in the planning and design of new AV installations and classroom renovations.
-
Develop technical standards including specifications for equipment requirements and project documentation.
-
Establish Project Management process to organize daily tasks as well as larger campus projects
-
Coordinate with contractors, vendors, campus partners and other resources when needed
-
Oversee AV installation projects to ensure compliance with institutional standards and project requirements.

Conduct system testing, acceptance, commissioning, and documentation for completed projects.
Budget and Asset Management
-
Assisting with the AV operating and capital equipment budgets.
-
Prepare equipment replacement plans and long-term technology roadmaps.
-
Evaluate products and services and make recommendations regarding purchases.
-
Manage AV inventory, equipment lifecycle, warranties, licenses, and service agreements.
-
Obtain and evaluate vendor proposals and assist with procurement processes.
Events and Media Services
-
Coordinate AV support for commencement, conferences, performances, guest speakers, board meetings, athletic events, and other major campus activities as needed.

Support live streaming, recording, webcast, and hybrid event technologies.
-
Ensure appropriate equipment and staffing are available for scheduled events.

Establish event support procedures and service level agreements are met.
Documentation and Compliance
-
Maintain accurate documentation of AV systems, equipment, configurations, and installations.
-
Develop and maintain AV standards and technical guidelines.
-
Ensure systems and services comply with applicable institutional policies, accessibility requirements, safety standards, and technology standards.

Monitor emerging AV technologies and higher-education trends and recommend improvements when appropriate.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Strong knowledge of professional audio, video, presentation, control, and conferencing technologies.
Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical problems.
Knowledge of AV signal flow, digital signal processing, networking, and system integration.
Strong project management and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Strong customer-service and interpersonal skills.
Ability to translate technical information into clear, understandable language.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, or extended hours to support major campus events.
Familiarity with hand and power tools (screwdrivers, hand drills, etc.) and their operation
Ability to work off ladders and scaffolding, with heights up to 20’
Ability to carry equipment/materials up to 50 lbs
Attention to detail and organized
Ability to communicate well with co-workers and customers

Ability to work between:
Monday - Sunday
6:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Based on weekly needs
Night and weekend work occasionally required
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Regular and reliable attendance

Minimum Qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of an earned Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field
Preferred to have a valid driver's license
Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee
