Description

We are looking for an Accounts Receivable Analyst to join a manufacturing organization in Union City, California on a contract basis with the potential for a permanent position. This position supports daily receivables operations, trade promotion accounting, and core close activities while helping maintain accurate financial records. The ideal candidate is comfortable working across accounting and sales-related processes, investigating payment issues, and using data to improve visibility into deductions and outstanding balances.

This position is based onsite in Union City, CA.

Responsibilities:

  • Review customer deductions and promotional claims, confirm proper backup, and align transactions with approved trade programs.

  • Record incoming payments, apply cash accurately, and reconcile customer accounts to maintain current and reliable receivable balances.

  • Investigate shortages, chargebacks, credits, and disputed items by coordinating with customers and internal business partners to resolve open issues.

  • Track aging trends and support collection efforts to reduce overdue balances while preserving strong customer relationships.

  • Prepare and post accounting entries related to deductions, discounts, accruals, commissions, and other assigned financial activity.

  • Reconcile accounts such as accounts receivable and other balance sheet items, researching variances and correcting discrepancies as needed.

  • Assist with month-end and year-end close by validating account activity, supporting accruals, and contributing to accurate financial reporting.

  • Maintain data within trade promotion and related accounting systems, including customer, pricing, product, and accrual information.

  • Contribute to audit support and process improvement initiatives that strengthen receivables controls and deduction management.

  • Analyze spending patterns and exceptions tied to promotional programs, providing insight into budget alignment and unusual variances.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in accounts receivable, accounting, or trade-related financial analysis.

  • Working knowledge of cash application, commercial collections, billing support, account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close.

  • Strong Excel skills, including the ability to organize, reconcile, and analyze large data sets using tools such as pivot tables and formulas.

  • Solid understanding of deduction management, accrual accounting, and the investigation of payment discrepancies.

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across accounting, sales, and customer-facing teams.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred; comparable practical experience will also be considered.
