Summary
This position, Budget Technician (Seasonal) -FUL, is located in Seasonal Staffing Office-Sainte Genevieve National Historical Park, in the Administrative Division. This announcement is limited to the first 50 applications and will close the day it reaches application limit or on the listed closing day at 11:59 (EST). First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate. Defined season for this position is from Dec-Jun. Expect to start in Dec 2026.
Duties
Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Providing preliminary budget estimates for current and projected budgets Prepares budget data and budgets for all fixed costs, distribution and allocation Preparing status of funds reports, reconciling, reporting, resolving discrepancies, adjusting balances, routing, and documenting Reviewing official accounting office reports, verifying entries and detecting accounting errors. Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary. The work may require some physical effort, such as standing, walking, bending, or sitting. There are no special physical demands. Work Environment: The incumbent works in an office setting involving everyday risks or discomforts. Normal safety precautions are required. Requirements
Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. You must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-10/14/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. All candidates must also meet Time-in-Grade requirements. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. To qualify for this position at the GS-6 grade level, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS5 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as: Using financial system(s) to research, compile, verify, and summarize budget data such as salaries, fixed costs, travel expenses, and other expenses; Assisting with adjustments for changes in projected expenditures; Participating in preliminary budget estimates and assisting with budget execution; Responding to inquiries regarding budget procedures, problems, reconciliation issues, and related budgetary issues. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

This position will be filled under the Field Unit Local Hiring Authority. Eligibility is limited to applicants who reside within the defined local commuting area at the time of application. For this announcement, the local commuting area is the area from which individuals can reasonably commute to the duty station under normal conditions. The defined vicinity for this position is: Ste. Genevieve National Historical Park is defined as 75 miles from 339 Saint Marys Rd, Saint Genevieve, MO 63670. You must provide proof of residency within the defined vicinity (e.g. mortgage or property deed, lease/rental agreement, utility bill, insurance policy, etc.). See the Required Documents section for information on how to verify current residence. Additional vacancies may be filled using this job announcement. A Recruitment Incentive May Be Authorized for a newly selected employee when appointed to a permanent, temporary, or term position. A Federal employee who is transferring from another component, bureau or Federal agency and who does not meet the conditions under 5 CFR §575.102 is not eligible for a recruitment incentive. Non-Competitive Rehire Eligibility: Temporary seasonal employees can only maintain their non-competitive rehire eligibility if they work no more than a combined total of Temporary NTE less than 1040 hours within their established service year. Accordingly, non-competitive rehire eligibility allows for re-appointment to the same position or another position appropriate for temporary appointment with the same qualification requirements (5 CFR 316.402[b][7]), based on series and grade, anywhere in the major subdivision. If you have held a temporary seasonal appointment in the past 12 months and have already worked the maximum temporary appointment less than 1040 hours during that period, you are still welcome to apply. However, please be aware that exceeding the limit of 1040 hours in your established service year will result in the loss of your non-competitive rehire eligibility. The limit can be exceeded by working multiple temporary seasonal positions that result in a combined total greater than 1040 hours. The limit also can be exceeded by working a single temporary seasonal appointment that exceeds 1040 hours, unless granted an exception by OPM. Employment may be terminated at any time due to fluctuations in funding levels, project needs, employee performance, or other considerations. All Department of Interior (DOI) employees, their spouses, and minor children may not acquire or retain any claim, permit, lease, small tract entry, or other rights granted by the Department in Federal lands, with limited exceptions.
