RESPONSIBILITIES
I. JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist, performs technical functions in the inpatient pharmacy, including but not limited to, filling routine orders, pre-packing medications, managing floor stock and preparing medications for automated dispensing.

May be trained to compound sterile products or manage controlled medications.

Performs duties in accordance with departmental and Medical Center policies and procedures.
II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
A. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Finger dexterity. Seeing. Hearing. Speaking.
B. MANUAL MATERIAL HANDLING:

Occasional: Lift floor to waist between 36-50 lbs. Lift waist to shoulder between 36-50 lbs. Lift waist to overhead between 11-20 lbs. Carry between 36-50 lbs. Push and Pull between 36-50 lbs.

C. NON-MANUAL MATERIAL HANDLING:

Occasional: Sit. Kneel. Twist. Crawl. Squat.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.

Some exposure to cold temperature from freezer.

Exposure to noise/vibration from air conditioner, and office/pharmacy equipment.

Exposure to body fluids, chemicals, some contact with patients with communicable diseases.
-
May be required to work with hazardous drugs, depending upon area of assignment.

Work environment is fast paced, congested and may be stressful.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
B. CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
-
Current Hawaii State certificate of registration as a Pharmacy Technician.

Certificate of completion from a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) recognized or American Society of Health-System Pharmacy (ASHP) accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program; or three (3) months of work experience as a Pharmacy Technician may be substituted for the education requirement.
C. EXPERIENCE:

Hospital technician training and work experience preferred.

Experience to demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills.

Proficiency in computers and word processing applications, i.e. Microsoft Word.
