Assistant Professor of Education, General Faculty (Curriculum & Instruction)

The School of Education and Human Development (https://education.virginia.edu/) at the University of Virginia seeks a talented educator in the area of curriculum and instruction for a position at the assistant professor level. This is an in-person, salaried, 9-month, tenure ineligible teaching track faculty position in the fully online, asynchronous Curriculum and Instruction Program in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction & Special Education (https://education.virginia.edu/offices-departments/curriculum-instruction-special-education) .

The school is especially interested in applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas: writing and presenting applied research in curriculum and instruction, assessment practices in educational contexts (primarily K-12), learning sciences, and creating welcoming environments for all learners. This position will involve teaching online, asynchronous courses for students in UVA's Curriculum and Instruction Master of Education (M.Ed.), Education Specialist (Ed.S.), and Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) programs. It will also involve advising C&I M.Ed. and Ed.D. students, evaluating program milestones, and supporting Ed.D. students in the design and conduct of practitioner research.

This faculty member will collaborate with program and department faculty to design and deliver graduate (primarily master's- and doctoral-level) online courses. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience collaborating with colleagues to develop course and/or curricular materials, as well as an effective advisor on program milestones.

Duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to teaching, advising, mentoring and participation in program, departmental and school meetings are to be conducted primarily on-Grounds and in-person at the University of Virginia.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

• Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction or a related field

• Experience teaching students in K-12 education contexts

• Evidence of effectively teaching online, asynchronous courses in applied research methods, assessment practices in education contexts (primarily K-12), and learning sciences

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

• Knowledge of digital technology including the use of Canvas (Learning Management System)

• Demonstrated experience in instructional supervision

• A strong record of collaboration with groups of students and faculty

• Evidence of effective advising and leadership within curriculum and instruction programs and collaboration across programs or departments (e.g., Applied Research Methods, degree-specific Area of Emphasis)

• Experience identifying, investigating, and addressing problems of practice in educational contexts
