DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS This position requires experience in performing moderately complex, skilled technical installation, maintenance, and repairs of electrical and process equipment. Duties include, but not limited to, system evaluations to make recommendations for process improvements. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair PLC issues regarding Analog Inputs/Output, Digital Input/Output, Rack Power Supplies, UPS Systems, and associated wiring. Repairs and calibrates all components of process control and analytical systems; troubleshoots and repairs both digital and analog electronic equipment to the component level. Coordinate with external vendors and contractors to ensure the work performed is of acceptable quality and that the scope of work has been achieved. Periodic inspection of completed PM/CMs for quality and reliability will be required. Documentation of daily activities in the Work Management System (INFOR) and maintaining preventive maintenance records.

WORKING CONDITIONS This position may involve considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on an occasional basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. There are occasional exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution.

This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier 1 Level. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires an Associate's degree (two-year program) in a computer science, instrumentation or electronics discipline or the equivalent, such as certification in a technical/specialty program of up to three years in duration.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Four years of experience in the design, installation, operation and/or maintenance of a computerized network or industrial control system are required.

Relevant experience (as described above) may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS None Preference will be given to applicants with experience in maintaining medium/low voltage systems, knowledge of electrical controls, or that hold an active Texas Electrical Journeyman License.

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.* SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED: None However, the department may administer a skills assessment test.

SALARY INFORMATION Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
