Employment Type: Full timeShift: 12 Hour Night Shift Description: Position Purpose At Saint Mary’s Hospital, the Registered Nurse (RN) in the Inpatient General Surgery unit delivers high-quality, patient-centered care to adult and geriatric surgical patients throughout their inpatient stay. This role focuses on post-operative recovery, ongoing assessment, and coordination of care, ensuring safe outcomes and a smooth transition from hospitalization to home or the next level of care.
What You Will Do
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to post-operative general surgery patients, including assessment, pain management, wound care, and monitoring for complications.
- Collaborate with surgeons, hospitalists, case management, and interdisciplinary teams to support patient progression, recovery, and discharge planning.
- Educate patients and families on post-surgical care, medications, activity restrictions, and recovery expectations to promote safe transitions.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program with an Associate’s degree in Nursing is required
- Valid RN license in Connecticut
- Ideal candidates will have one or more years of General Surgery, Med/Surg, or Acute Inpatient nursing experience.
Preferred:
- BLS/CPR certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross), certification support offered post-hire.
Position Highlights
- Full-Time: 36 hrs/week – Night Shift
- 12-hour shifts with rotating weekends and holidays
Compensation and Benefits

Hourly Staff RN position; pay range: $37.25 – $61.75/hour• Pay is based on working RN experience only. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
