Shenandoah Community School District is looking for a dedicated 10 Month Food Service Worker .

Primary duties include:

  • Food Prep:

Wash, peel, slice, chop, and pre-portion fresh produce, meats, cheeses, and cold items prior to the meal period.

  • Cooking:

Safely operate commercial kitchen equipment including convection ovens, steamers, braising pans, kettles, and slicers.

  • Serving:

Serve meals to students and faculty efficiently, utilizing correct portion-control utensils to meet federal school lunch program requirements. Guide students regarding meal components to ensure they select a reimbursable meal under district guidelines. Provide a welcoming, positive, and patient customer service experience for all students and school staff.

  • Dish Room:

Set up, operate, and maintain the commercial dishwashing machine, monitoring water temperatures and chemical sanitizer levels. Wash, rinse, and sanitize large pots, pans, and prep equipment manually using a standard three-compartment sink setup. Clean and sanitize food prep counters, equipment, and serving lines, and sweep/mop floors at the end of the shift.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Previous experience in food service, institutional cooking, or hospitality is highly desirable.

  • Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, and cross-contamination prevention.

  • Ability to stand for long periods, work in a warm environment, and safely lift/carry up to 40 pounds.

Starting wage: $16.60/hr
