Summary
This position functions as a Program Support Clerk for the Environmental Management Service (EMS) and is located at the Veterans Affairs St. Louis Health Care System (VASTLHCS) in Jefferson Barracks, MO.
Duties
THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION Duties include, but may not be limited to: Manages time and leave in VA timekeeping system as the primary timekeeper for Environmental Management Service (EMS) and provides support to timekeeping staff for all units assigned. Ensures all information is correct according to guidelines, procedures, and policies and is kept up to date. Provides current leave policies and procedures to assist in decision making. Tracks and prepares reports on daily attendance, overtime, Family Medical Leave Act (FLMA) usage, and unscheduled hours per employee. Loads, posts, examines, computes, and balances hours on the time and leave records and any required bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. Provides general clerical and public contact support services such as answering the telephone, referring visitors, or providing information about the office, its functions, and standard operating procedures. Receives and screens telephone calls and directs contact as appropriate; takes concise messages; answers questions concerning established policy. Responsible for the operation of the Patient Effects Program (PEP) in accordance with existing medical center policies. Receives and stores patient effects for patients that are admitted to areas where storage is unavailable, or the patient effects are excessive and cannot be stored with the patient. Tracks Environment of Care (EOC) abatement activities to ensure timely completion and compliance with safety standards. Issues and receives uniforms, obtains signatures, and tracks all items issued and returned. Manages employee clearance process - ensuring necessary documentation and steps are completed efficiently. Sponsors employees for their Personal Identity Verification (PIV) badges, coordinating with relevant departments. Inputs, tracks and manages work orders, maintaining logs for housekeeping and pest control requests, ensuring timely and accurate completion of service requests. Performs other duties as assigned. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet one of the following qualifications: TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. -AND- SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in Federal service that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience includes using a variety of office equipment and software to provide clerical support such as preparing correspondence, tracking items, assisting callers/visitors; and performing timekeeping duties. (Resume must clearly support the duties and experience required for this position. We will not make assumptions regarding experience.) -OR- SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: You have successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. One full year of graduate education is considered to be 18 semester hours. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION) -OR- COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: You must possess equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and specialized experience to meet total qualification requirements at the GS-5 level. Physical Requirements: The position may require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking. The applicant must have the physical capability to stoop, bend, push, pull, reach, and exercise normal body movements to perform the duties of the position. Occasional lifting of light to moderate weights is required, and the incumbent must have the visual acuity to operate office equipment and conduct detailed inspections. The applicant must have the physical capability to remain on his/her feet for long periods of time.
