Job Overview

The University of Dubuque is a growing faith-based University that is seeking a Full-time Faculty in Computer Studies .

Position Summary:

We are seeking an energetic, student-centered educator who will bring current technical knowledge, creative ideas, and a passion for mentoring students to a vibrant program spanning computer studies and information technology. The successful candidate will create engaging learning experiences, contribute to curriculum and program development, and help prepare students to lead and adapt in a rapidly changing digital landscape.

The position includes opportunities to teach across a range of contemporary areas, including software engineering, data analytics, systems analysis and design, database systems, computer networks, and cloud infrastructure. Practical expertise in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, or robotics is especially welcome. The ideal candidate will connect foundational knowledge with authentic problems, projects, and professional practice while working collaboratively with colleagues across disciplines.

Primary Responsibilities:

Mission

Engage fully with the University's Mission through excellence in teaching and advising, ongoing scholarship and professional development, and active service to the campus and broader community

Teaching and Advising

  • Teach 24 credit hours per academic year in Computer Studies, Information Technology, and related areas as assigned

  • Design learning experiences that actively engage students and accommodate a range of backgrounds, abilities, and learning needs

  • Connect course content to contemporary technologies, authentic problems, and professional practice

  • Assess student learning, provide clear and timely feedback, and use evidence to continually improve instruction

  • Advise and mentor students in academic planning, career exploration, internships, research, and professional development. Maintain regular availability to support students outside of class

Scholarship and Professional Development

  • Maintain an active agenda of scholarship and professional growth appropriate to the discipline and the University's teaching-centered mission

  • Remain current with emerging technologies, industry practices, and developments in teaching and learning

  • Participate in relevant professional organizations, conferences, workshops, certifications, continuing education, or applied professional work

  • Direct internships, tutorials, independent studies, and student research as needed

Service

  • Develop new courses and curricula and revise existing offerings to reflect changes in technology, professional practice, and student needs

  • Contribute fresh ideas and collaborative leadership to the continued development of Computer Studies and Information Technology programs

  • Build relationships with industry and community partners that support internships, projects, career pathways, and program relevance

  • Support student recruitment, retention, and program outreach activities

  • Participate in department and faculty meetings, convocations, commencements, shared governance, and University service

  • Support in principle and practice the Mission of the University of Dubuque

Position Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrate expertise in one or more areas aligned with the program's teaching needs

  • Evidence of effective teaching, training, mentoring, or the ability to create engaging undergraduate learning experiences

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills

  • Ability to adapt to emerging technologies, changing professional expectations, and evolving educational practices

  • Practice professional and collegial behavior, cultural competency, and inclusive approaches in all circumstances

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree is required; Doctorate degree is preferred

  • A graduate degree in computer science, information systems, information technology, software engineering, data analytics, or a closely related field
