Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Senior Power Quality Engineer to serve as the owner's engineer for power quality, dynamic load interaction, and power system performance across large-scale behind-the-meter power generation projects supporting hyperscale data centers.

This individual will not be performing detailed design work. Instead, they will lead technical oversight of external engineering firms, OEMs, and consultants to ensure power systems are designed, studied, and commissioned correctly while protecting generation assets and maintaining compliance with utility and interconnection requirements.

The ideal candidate has experience reviewing and challenging power system studies, working with generation assets and utility-scale electrical systems, and serving as an owner's representative during design, procurement, and commissioning.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities Serve as the owner's engineer for power quality and electrical performance across hyperscale data center power projects Direct and oversee external engineering firms, OEMs, and consultants performing power system studies and design work Review and validate power system analyses including: Harmonic studies Load flow studies Short circuit studies Protective relay coordination studies Arc flash studies Dynamic stability studies Evaluate interactions between gas turbine generation systems, large data center loads, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) Review studies related to: Power quality Voltage stability Fault ride-through Harmonics Sub-synchronous torsional interaction (SSTI) Forced power oscillations Ensure compliance with IEEE standards, utility requirements, and interconnection requirements Validate BESS sizing, inverter specifications, and mitigation strategies supporting power quality and system stability Coordinate with utilities, ISOs, OEMs, customers, and engineering partners throughout design and commissioning Support commissioning activities and field validation of power quality performance

Skills and Requirements

Must Have Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering 5+ years of experience in power systems, power quality, utility engineering, generation engineering, or related electrical engineering disciplines Experience reviewing and validating power system studies created by engineering firms or consultants Experience using or reviewing outputs from ETAP, PSS®E, PSCAD, SKM, or similar power system modeling tools Strong understanding of: Power quality Harmonics Load flow analysis Short circuit analysis Protective relaying Utility interconnections Experience working with utilities, generation assets, large industrial facilities, data centers, or transmission/distribution systems Ability to lead technical discussions and challenge third-party engineering recommendations Preferred Qualifications Owner's engineer or owner's representative experience Experience with behind-the-meter generation systems Experience supporting hyperscale or AI data center projects Experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS) Knowledge of sub-synchronous torsional interaction (SSTI) and forced power oscillation studies Experience with ERCOT or other ISO/RTO interconnection processes Microgrid or islanded power system experience Field commissioning or power quality testing experience Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Professional Engineer (PE) license
