Salary Range: $27.45 To $31.27 Hourly

Job Summary

The part-time Paralegal supports attorneys in LASMNY’s Foreclosure Prevention Project who represent homeowners facing mortgage and tax foreclosure. The position interviews and screens clients, prepares case summaries, tracks cases, completes loss mitigation applications, and provides document preparation, research, and investigative support. Occasional travel may be required.

Essential Job Functions

  • Communicate effectively with clients by phone and in person.

  • Screen and interview clients facing mortgage or tax foreclosure, assess case status, and prepare case summaries.

  • Explain the foreclosure process and triage cases for attorney assignment.

  • Track foreclosure cases and provide status reports to the managing attorney.

  • Complete loss mitigation applications as directed by the managing attorney.

  • Assist attorneys with case preparation, document review, research, investigation, and trial preparation.

  • Maintain accurate and timely case records, files, notes, and time entries.

  • Maintain records, statistics, and grant-reporting information.

  • Work professionally with clients, colleagues, courts, opposing counsel, and community partners.

  • Maintain regular attendance and comply with all LASMNY, LSC, grant, and professional requirements.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support agency operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, Associate’s degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent education and experience.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, legal technology, and computerized legal research.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technology.

  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.

  • High professional integrity and commitment to client confidentiality.

  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and communities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior office experience, preferably in a legal setting.

  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities.

  • Knowledge of the legal needs and challenges facing low-income communities.

Compensation
