Full job description

Description We are looking for a Staff Auditor - Public to support financial audit initiatives for a contract position. This role focuses on evaluating financial controls, conducting audit testing, and assisting with compliance-related reviews, including Sarbanes-Oxley activities. The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of audit practices and can contribute effectively to annual external audit preparation and execution.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform financial audit procedures to assess accuracy, compliance, and control effectiveness across assigned areas.

  • Support Sarbanes-Oxley testing by reviewing documentation, evaluating controls, and identifying areas requiring follow-up.

  • Participate in audit reviews by analyzing records, summarizing findings, and helping develop practical recommendations.

  • Assist with planning and executing audit activities in alignment with established timelines and applicable standards.

  • Prepare clear audit workpapers and maintain organized documentation to support conclusions and reporting.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external auditors during the annual external audit process.

  • Track remediation items and follow up on open audit issues to help ensure timely resolution. Requirements • Experience supporting financial audits within a public accounting or audit-focused environment.

  • Working knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance requirements and control testing practices.

  • Ability to conduct audit reviews, interpret financial information, and document results accurately.

  • Familiarity with annual external audit support, including preparation of requested materials.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple audit activities simultaneously.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for presenting findings and coordinating with stakeholders.
