Job Description
A customer is seeking a Security Engagement Manager to serve as a strategic liaison between its cybersecurity organization and technical teams supporting rapidly evolving technology and AI initiatives.
This individual will embed closely with technical and business teams to maintain visibility into active initiatives, understand what teams are building and changing, and identify when cybersecurity involvement may be required. The Security Engagement Manager will help translate technical conversations into security considerations, connect teams with the appropriate cybersecurity resources, and ensure security is engaged at the right points throughout an initiative.
This is not a hands-on security engineering or architecture role. The ideal candidate will have enough experience within technical cybersecurity environments to understand security terminology, recognize potential security implications, and ask the right questions, while excelling primarily in stakeholder engagement, communication, translation, and facilitation.
Ultimately, this person will help create an environment where security is engaged proactively rather than being brought in after key decisions have already been made.
Key Responsibilities Embed within technical, product, AI, and business teams to develop visibility into current and emerging initiatives. Participate in team discussions, meetings, and collaboration channels to understand upcoming projects, changes, and technology decisions. Listen for potential cybersecurity implications and identify situations where additional security engagement may be necessary. Serve as a bridge between technical delivery teams and cybersecurity stakeholders, helping both sides understand context, requirements, and next steps. Translate technical and business conversations into meaningful context for security teams. Connect teams with the appropriate cybersecurity subject matter experts when deeper expertise or review is needed. Ask thoughtful security-oriented questions to uncover considerations that may not yet have been identified by the project team. Facilitate security conversations and follow through on identified needs to ensure appropriate stakeholders remain engaged. Build trusted relationships across technology, security, product, and business organizations. Maintain awareness of initiatives across multiple teams and proactively surface potential security dependencies or requirements. Help teams understand when and why cybersecurity involvement may be needed without becoming an unnecessary bottleneck to delivery. What This Role Is Not
This position is focused on engagement and facilitation rather than hands-on security execution. The Security Engagement Manager will not be expected to:
Design security architecture or technical solutions. Serve as the security architect or engineer for individual initiatives. Perform hands-on application, cloud, infrastructure, or product security assessments. Conduct penetration testing, vulnerability testing, or source code reviews. Independently define or approve security controls. Own technical security implementation. Replace existing cybersecurity subject matter experts or security functions. Own project teams' security intake or demand-management processes.
Instead, this person should understand these functions well enough to recognize when they may be needed and bring the appropriate experts into the conversation.
Skills and Requirements
Experience working within or closely alongside a cybersecurity or information security organization. Strong working knowledge of enterprise cybersecurity concepts, terminology, and functions. Ability to participate credibly in technical conversations without needing to be the deepest technical expert in the room. Demonstrated ability to recognize when a technical initiative may introduce security considerations and determine when additional security expertise should be engaged. Experience working cross-functionally with technical teams, business stakeholders, and cybersecurity professionals. Strong ability to translate technical discussions into clear business and security context. Excellent stakeholder management, facilitation, communication, and relationship-building skills. Ability to navigate ambiguity and operate effectively across multiple initiatives simultaneously. Strong judgment and curiosity, with the ability to ask the right questions and identify potential gaps early. Ability to influence teams and drive engagement without direct authority.
The ideal candidate is technically fluent in cybersecurity but not necessarily a hands-on practitioner. They understand the security landscape well enough to listen to a technical conversation, identify where security considerations may exist, ask intelligent follow-up questions, and determine which security experts should be involved.
They are equally comfortable communicating with engineers and architects as they are with business leaders and program teams. Their value comes from connecting dots, translating across groups, facilitating the right conversations, and ensuring security is never unintentionally left out of an initiative. Experience in a Security Program Manager, Security Engagement Manager, Cybersecurity Program Manager, Security Business Partner, Technical Program Manager, or similar capacity. Exposure to areas such as application security, cloud security, identity and access management, data security, product security, vulnerability management, security architecture, risk management, or secure software development. Experience supporting large enterprise technology environments. Experience working alongside software engineering, product, data, or AI teams. Familiarity with cybersecurity governance, review, intake, and engagement processes.
We are a company committed to creating diverse and inclusive environments where people can bring their full, authentic selves to work every day. We are an equal employment opportunity/affirmative action employer that believes everyone matters. Qualified candidates will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, marital status, national origin, ancestry, genetic factors, age, disability, protected veteran status, military or uniformed service member status, or any other status or characteristic protected by applicable laws, regulations, and ordinances. If you need assistance and/or a reasonable accommodation due to a disability during the application or the recruiting process, please send a request to [email protected].
