Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.

  • Ability to coordinate, assign, and prioritize daily work for assigned technicians in accordance with priorities established by the Supervisor.

  • Ability to guide and train Controls Technicians I and II in installation, maintenance, programming, troubleshooting, and repair of Fire Protection systems and Fireworks under applicable NFPA standards.

  • Ability to coordinate with the Fire Marshal/ AHJ and contractors on inspections, repairs, upgrades, annual deficiencies, and project compliance with NFPA requirements and Campus Construction Standards.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide clear technical direction.

  • Factory Certified in EST 3 and/or EST 4 fire alarm systems.

  • Must have either attended and passed Factory Training by Edwards System Technologies for Fireworks, or have at least 12 months experience working within the system.

  • Available and willing to work rotating after-hours on-call duty and complete assigned training by established deadlines.

  • Ability to prepare reports, spreadsheets, technical summaries, and operational documentation using Microsoft Office or similar applications.

  • Ability to read drawings, wiring diagrams, system and inspection records, project documentation, and related technical materials.

  • Ability to review AiM work orders, inspection records, deficiencies, and corrective follow-up.

  • Ability to prepare purchase requests, support procurement, review contractor scopes, and assist with budget tracking.

  • Ability to work in equipment rooms, elevated areas, ladders, above-ceiling spaces, rooftops, and other building-system locations.

  • Available and willing to work after-hours on-call duty, on a rotating basis with other shop personnel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Fire Protection systems in a commercial, institutional, industrial, government, or similar large facilities.

  • Experience using computerized work order management systems such as AiM and serving as a senior or lead technician.

  • Experience reviewing contractor proposals, scopes of work, estimates, and project documentation,

  • Experience working with AutoCAD.

  • Experience with all types of water-based fire suppression systems, supervisory signals, and related Fire Protection interfaces.

Job Description

Serves as the working technical lead for campus Fire Protection systems. Coordinates, assigns, and prioritizes daily work for assigned technicians in accordance with priorities established by the Supervisor. Guides and trains Controls Technicians I and II and supports monitoring, response, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair.

The primary focus is fire alarm and detection systems, EST systems, and Fireworks. The technical scope includes all types of water-based fire suppression systems. Formal personnel-management authority remains with the Supervisor.

Job Duties

  • Coordinate, assign, and prioritize daily Fire Protection work for assigned technicians in accordance with priorities established by the Supervisor.

  • Provide day-to-day technical leadership, guidance, and training to Controls Technicians I and II.

  • Coordinate Fire Protection work performed by staff, contractors, and vendors.

  • Support reliable monitoring, response, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair operations; troubleshoot issues and escalate as needed.

  • Coordinate with the Fire Marshal/ AHJ and contractors on inspections, repairs, upgrades, project work, and correction of deficiencies.

  • Support design reviews, renovations, projects, acceptance testing, and system turnover.

  • Support inspection, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all types of water-based fire suppression systems, including supervisory signals and interfaces.

  • Review AiM work orders, inspection and testing records, deficiency documentation, and corrective follow-up.

  • Support purchase requests, procurement, contractor scopes, and budget tracking for maintenance, repairs, software, equipment, services, and projects.

  • Complete assigned technical, safety, compliance, and University-required training by established deadlines.

  • Participate in the regular rotation of after-hours on-call duties. Perform other duties as assigned.
