This Quality Engineer role focuses on ensuring full compliance with government, customer, and aerospace quality requirements across the entire inspection lifecycle. You will serve as a key quality interface for government and customer representatives, interpret complex technical data and contracts, and develop robust quality and inspection plans that support high-precision aerospace and defense manufacturing programs.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret government contracts, customer purchase orders, and flow-down requirements to ensure complete compliance with quality, inspection, and documentation standards.

  • Serve as the primary quality interface with DCMA, Government Source Inspectors, and customer quality representatives to support program and product acceptance.

  • Support and participate in government source selection activities, including supplier evaluations, quality reviews, and compliance assessments.

  • Interpret Technical Data Packages (TDPs), engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions to define quality requirements, inspection plans, and acceptance criteria.

  • Develop, review, and approve quality plans, inspection plans, and quality documentation aligned with contractual, engineering, and regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing and engineering teams to ensure work instructions, routings, and inspection steps accurately reflect contractual, engineering, and quality requirements.

  • Lead the identification, documentation, root cause analysis, and corrective action of non-conformances related to drawings, specifications, suppliers, or contract requirements.

  • Support internal, customer, and government audits by ensuring readiness, maintaining accurate documentation, and driving effective closeout of audit findings.

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with AS9100, customer-specific requirements, and internal quality management system procedures.

  • Support supplier quality activities, including source inspection readiness, quality reviews, and resolution of supplier-related quality issues.

  • Maintain accurate and complete quality records and documentation in accordance with aerospace, customer, and government requirements.

  • Perform mechanical inspections using precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, pin gauges, and roughness measurement devices to verify conformance to tight tolerances.

  • Read and interpret engineering blueprints, schematics, and GD&T to confirm that parts meet dimensional and functional requirements.

  • Document inspection results for receiving, in-process, and final inspections to support customer requirements, government contracts, and quality compliance.

  • Use Microsoft Office tools to prepare technical documentation, reports, and audit support materials.

Essential Skills

  • Experience working with government contracts and associated quality, inspection, and compliance requirements.

  • Direct experience interfacing with DCMA and Government Source Inspection (GSI) representatives.

  • Experience supporting or participating in government source selection activities or supplier evaluations.

  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, schematics, GD&T, and Technical Data Packages.

  • Understanding of how contractual and engineering requirements translate into manufacturing and inspection processes.

  • Experience identifying, documenting, and resolving non-conformances in an aerospace manufacturing environment.

  • Familiarity with AS9100 quality systems and aerospace quality standards.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office for technical documentation, reporting, and audit support.

  • Hands-on experience using precision inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, pin gauges, and roughness measurement instruments.

  • Ability to consistently document inspection results for receiving, in-process, and final inspections in support of customer and government requirements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Aerospace or defense manufacturing experience.

  • Prior Quality Engineer experience supporting DoD or other government programs.

  • Experience working with customer quality portals such as Net-Inspect or similar systems.

  • Knowledge of GD&T principles and advanced inspection methodologies.

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.

  • Interest in working on ITAR-regulated and government programs.

  • Motivation to grow into a long-term role with potential for conversion to full-time employment.

Work Environment

This role operates within a dedicated Quality department that includes a Quality Manager, Quality Supervisor, and an inspector, providing close collaboration and direct access to quality leadership. You will split your time between the manufacturing floor and an office setting, working hands-on with high-precision aerospace and defense components while also managing documentation, reporting, and audit preparation. The workload is stable and centered around aerospace and high-precision manufacturing, offering exposure to the full inspection lifecycle from receiving through final inspection and involvement in government and ITAR-regulated programs.
