Job Purpose & Scope

Responsible for leading a team that processes, underwrites, and approves loan requests in compliance with the Bank’s credit policies and procedures.

Essential Job Functions

  • Manages, coaches, and provides training to consumer loan processors/underwriters to ensure Bank’s credit policies, procedures and standards are met.

  • Monitors assigned loan application queue to ensure loans are handled in a timely manner to meet department’s service level standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Communicates effectively (with internal/external customers and Management) concerning approved and declined consumer loans.

  • May perform secondary review on loan applications decisioned with a “Decline” or “Counteroffer” to ensure credit decisions are made according to loan policy.

  • Approves loans requiring higher lending authority.

  • Provides guidance to underwriters and directly underwrites the more complex loan requests according to Bank’s policies and procedures.

  • Works to ensure production standards are met by the consumer underwriting team.

  • May develop new procedures and processes to enhance workflow and ensure Bank’s policies are met.

  • Ensures compliance with all laws and regulations as they apply to consumer lending.

  • Performs special projects and tasks as required by the department.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of consumer loan products and credit analysis.

  • Knowledge of accounting principles and business and personal financial statements and tax returns.

  • Knowledge of consumer compliance bank regulations in addition to the Office of Foreign Asset Control, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Anti-Money Laundering Act, and the USA PATRIOT Act.

  • Knowledge of general banking principles.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with internal and external clients.

  • Ability to demonstrate initiative to accomplish work objectives.

  • Ability to work effectively and demonstrate flexibility in a continually changing environment.

  • Ability to demonstrate effective organization, critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (Business or Finance preferred) or commensurate work experience required.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of consumer credit underwriting work experience required.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of leadership experience preferred.
