DISASTER RESPONSE COORDINATOR

THIS IS A TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

LOCATION: Alabama

Position Summary:

We are a leading Disaster Recovery Emergency Management Consulting firm and are growing our team of Disaster Response Coordinators for anticipated episodic opportunities to provide critical support to communities affected by disaster events. Disaster Response Coordinators provide Mass Care services that address the immediate, basic needs of people affected or displaced by a disaster. Mass Care activities include sheltering, feeding, providing emergency supplies, assisting with reunification, household pet and service-animal support, evacuee reception and support, and mass evacuation support. This is episodic work where you will deploy for potentially extended periods of time to work closely in the field supporting Mass Care operations resulting from disaster events.

Job Duties and Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:

  • Deploy to disaster-affected areas to provide on-the-ground support.

  • Support coordination of sheltering, feeding, hydration, emergency supplies, and other mass care services.

  • Monitor shelter operations, capacity, population counts, resource needs, and unmet needs.

  • Support evacuation, reception, reunification, and household pet sheltering activities as required.

  • Coordinate with voluntary organizations, government agencies, and community partners.

  • Follow and enforce all guidelines, policies, and procedures associated with the assignment.

  • Clearly communicate and provide accurate and timely necessary information as directed.

  • Provide support and assistance to disaster survivors in DRCs, shelters, or other locations.

  • Prepare detailed reports for internal review and external reporting to stakeholders as directed.

  • Ensure all health and safety protocols and procedures are followed

  • Complete all required training as directed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the success of the mission.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to work collaboratively in team.

  • Strong coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to assess situations and take appropriate action in accordance with policies and procedures.

  • Ability to remain calm under stressful situations.

  • Possess a valid state issued driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.

  • Upon notification of activation, ability to quickly deploy to assigned client location.

  • Ability to work extended hours and deploy as required.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Mobility required to travel to disaster sites and affected communities working on-site.

  • Sitting or standing for hours at a time.

  • May require work in adverse weather conditions and challenging environments.

  • Ability to work up to twelve-hour shifts maintaining flexibility for longer shifts as needed.

  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time if needed.

  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. throughout the day and as needed.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree, preferred.

  • Previous experience in emergency management, disaster response, human services, shelter operations, or a related field preferred.

  • FEMA ICS-100, ICS-200, IS-700, and IS-800 training preferred.
