Full job description

Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG) builds the products that power infrastructure, solutions, and data management our customers need most. Our teams design and develop the hardware and software that connect infrastructure, accelerate computational workloads, integrate across the stack, protect data continuity, and deliver the platforms, applications, and diagnostics our customers rely on every day at enterprise scale.

Some product builders follow the rules. Ours rewrite them.

Within ISG, innovation isn't just about creating new technology- it's about challenging assumptions and reimagining how work gets done. Engineers define intent, author precise specifications, and orchestrate AI agents that execute at speed and scale. AI is embedded throughout our development process, helping us move faster, learn quicker, and deliver greater impact. Yet the most important contribution remains uniquely human: deciding what to build, designing how it should work, and applying the judgment needed to earn our customers' trust. When your products power critical infrastructure around the world, that responsibility matters.

We move quickly toward the work that matters most. We reward experimentation, encourage bold thinking, and remove unnecessary barriers so great ideas can become reality faster. Our teams embrace a customer-first, first-to-market mindset, transforming rapid feedback into better products and better outcomes. We aren't looking for people who are content with the status quo- we look for builders who question it, improve it, and occasionally rewrite it.

If you're energized by solving complex systems challenges, excited to work alongside AI to amplify your impact, and motivated by the opportunity to shape what's next instead of simply maintaining what's been done before, you'll find your place here.

Responsibilities

Sr. Principal Hardware Engineer

Dell Technologies is leading the transformation of AI infrastructure, delivering high-performance, liquid-cooled platforms that power next-generation workloads. Our Emerging Technologies (XE) Engineering organization is focused on Dell's AI server portfolio, L11 rack-scale solutions, and cluster-scale deployments that solve some of the most complex engineering challenges in the industry. Join us to do the best work of your career and make a measurable impact by enabling the design, deployment, and lifecycle success of advanced AI systems at global scale.

Join us as a Sr. Principal Hardware Engineer in Austin, Texas to do the best work of your career and make a profound social impact.

What You'll Achieve

Lead the architecture, development, integration, validation, and lifecycle support of next-generation AI server, storage, networking, and rack-scale infrastructure platforms. Serve as the technical authority for PCI Express, Memory, Power Delivery, and Systems Management technologies across the complete product lifecycle, from concept development through deployment, sustaining engineering, and customer support.

Drive platform innovation, quality, reliability, and performance while partnering with silicon vendors, ODMs, manufacturing, quality, firmware, systems engineering, and hyperscale customers. Lead critical technical investigations, root-cause analysis, and field escalations while influencing future-generation platform architectures.

Provide strategic technical leadership across multiple engineering organizations to ensure robust, scalable, serviceable, and highly available infrastructure solutions.

You will:

  • Lead PCIe architecture strategy and technology roadmaps for AI infrastructure platforms, driving compliance, interoperability, validation, debug, performance optimization, and development standards across current and next-generation solutions

  • Define memory subsystem architectures, validation methodologies, and design requirements, while leading investigations into memory performance, reliability, qualification, and field quality improvements

  • Drive platform and rack-level power architecture development, including power delivery, voltage regulation, sequencing, telemetry, power integrity, and optimization of efficiency, scalability, and resiliency for high-performance AI systems

  • Define systems management and serviceability strategies, leading BMC, telemetry, health monitoring, diagnostics, remote management, observability, and fleet-management capabilities to support deployment and operational excellence

  • Serve as a senior technical leader and subject matter expert, guiding customer escalations, root-cause investigations, executive review

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering (or related field) with 15+ years of experience leading electrical hardware engineering, platform architecture, and infrastructure development initiatives

  • Deep expertise in server and rack-scale electrical architectures, including PCIe Gen4/Gen5/Gen6, memory subsystems (DDR4/DDR5, HBM, RDIMM, MRDIMM), and high-speed signaling with strong SI/PI knowledge

  • Extensive experience designing and validating power delivery architectures, power distribution networks, voltage regulation, sequencing, telemetry, and platform management solutions, including BMC and system serviceability

  • Proven success leading complex hardware development programs from concept through production, with strong knowledge of validation, qualification, manufacturing, reliability engineering, and system-level root cause analysis

  • Demonstrated ability to drive technical strategy across organizations, lead executive-level technical reviews and customer engagements, and influence cross-functional engineering teams to deliver business-critical outcomes

Desirable Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) with expertise in AI/HPC platforms leveraging NVIDIA HGX, NVL72, GB200/GB300, B100/B200, and emerging technologies including CXL, PCIe Gen7, memory pooling, composable infrastructure, and rack-scale power/cooling architectures

  • Hands-on experience with platform management ecosystems (OpenBMC, Redfish, PLDM, MCTP, IPMI), hyperscale datacenter deployments, advanced design and analysis tools (Cadence, HyperLynx, Sigrity, Ansys, ADS), failure analysis and resiliency methodologies, and collaboration with silicon vendors, ODMs, cloud providers, and strategic customers
