This position is currently located in Fairbanks. The position may be in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, or Wasilla, depending upon the location of the most qualified candidate.

Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska; AND Master’s degree in nursing, public health, healthcare services, healthcare administration, or a closely related field; AND Any combination of additional education, certification, and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:

  • Public Health: Applies knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, methods, and tools associated with protecting and improving the health of people and their communities, including promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and injury prevention, and detecting, preventing, and responding to infectious diseases.
  • Creativity and Innovation: Develops new insights into situations; questions conventional approaches; encourages new ideas and innovations; designs and implements new or cutting-edge programs/processes.
  • Performance Measurement: Knowledge of the principles and methods for evaluating program or organizational performance using financial and nonfinancial measures, including identification of evaluation factors (for example, workload, personnel requirements), metrics, and outcomes.
  • Planning and Evaluating: Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; determines short- or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes.

Equivalent to those typically gained by: Progressively responsible professional nursing experience that includes prior leadership responsibility in health care, public health, health care delivery systems, nursing administration, consultative nursing, and/or a teaching capacity that is relevant to providing either public health services in a public health organization (e.g., tribal, city, county, or state) or population health services in a hospital or primary care setting.

Special Notes: Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Alaska and requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities, may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of RN licensure will be required prior to appointment and reporting for duty.
