Full job description

At TerraFirma, we’re redefining how the world moves earth for construction. Founded by former SpaceX engineers and backed by Kleiner Perkins and Bain Capital Ventures, TerraFirma is automating construction to make it faster, cheaper, and safer.

Our Story & Mission At SpaceX, we were part of the teams that built the largest rocket in human history, launched the largest constellation of satellites ever made, and delivered connectivity to millions of people worldwide. What we learned was simple: infrastructure is everything. At Starbase, the biggest barrier to launching missions to Mars was not building the rocket. It was how slow, expensive, and complex it was to build the infrastructure around it. We lacked buildings, roads, water, power, communications, and waste management, and constructing them took far more time and resources than it should have. From a first-principles perspective, that doesn't make sense. It shouldn't be this hard or costly to create the foundations for progress. That’s when we realized something important: the same engineering mindset that enabled us to tackle space exploration and mass manufacturing could be applied to infrastructure. By bringing the principles of simplification, iteration, acceleration, and automation to construction, we can unlock a new era in how the world builds. Accelerating infrastructure unlocks progress across every domain, creating a self-sustaining engine for tackling humanity’s toughest challenges. The innovations we develop on Earth will lay the groundwork for the technologies that one day make settlement on Mars possible.

Job Overview You will own heavy equipment fleet management, materials sourcing, and trucking logistics across TerraFirma’s projects, supporting a fleet scaling to approximately 100 machines. Your job is to keep equipment ready, job sites supplied, and field production moving, while driving down downtime and delivered cost. This is a build role. You’ll create the team, vendor network, and systems that keep our operations running, from quarry and carrier relationships to the fleet tracking and dispatch tools that connect field activity to engineering and finance. It’s a hands-on role for someone who knows earthmoving equipment and construction logistics from the field, and who wants to help shape how an automated construction company operates at scale. Responsibilities

  • Track every machine’s location, hours, condition, utilization, maintenance needs, downtime, and cost, and set clear repair priorities

  • Own fleet readiness, including preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, fueling, parts, and service records, managing mechanics, field service providers, and dealers

  • Coordinate equipment assignments, mobilization, transfers, and demobilization with project teams

  • Manage fleet budgets, rentals, off-rents, and warranties, and make equipment purchase and replacement recommendations

  • Own quarry and supplier relationships for aggregate, base, select fill, and other materials, negotiating pricing, supply commitments, and delivery terms

  • Coordinate material imports, exports, stockpiles, and disposal sites, confirming specifications, capacity, and access before dispatch

  • Build and manage a dependable carrier network, securing trucking capacity, negotiating rates, dispatching trucks, and arranging backup coverage across job sites

  • Balance loading, haul cycles, and receiving capacity to hit production targets without excessive queues or standby

  • Give estimating accurate equipment, material, hauling, and disposal costs and lead times, and feed actual project costs into future bids

  • Partner with engineering and finance to connect fleet tracking, dispatch, automated load counts, tickets, invoice reconciliation, and carrier payment

  • Track performance across equipment availability, delivered material cost, trucking, and ticket discrepancies, own corrective actions, and grow the team as volume increases

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years in heavy civil fleet management, equipment operations, or construction logistics, with direct responsibility for maintenance and vendor coordination

  • Strong working knowledge of earthmoving equipment, service requirements, repair prioritization, and equipment operating costs

  • Experience negotiating with quarries, material suppliers, equipment dealers, service providers, and trucking contractors

  • Ability to manage mechanics and vendors, coordinate multiple job sites, and maintain accurate digital records with limited supervision

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience supporting fleets of 50–100+ machines, including maintenance budgets, rentals, and equipment lifecycle decisions

  • Established Central Texas quarry, trucking, dealer, and service relationships

  • Experience with fleet telematics, maintenance software, dispatch systems, or digital ticket reconciliation

  • Interest in robotics and construction automation

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to work on site in Buda, TX and at active project sites, and relocate if not within commuting distance

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites across Texas

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment

  • Available for early starts, extended hours, and urgent breakdown or dispatch issues when project needs require
