Overview

The Pharmac y Informatics & Medication Safety Specialist enhances pharmacy services by leveraging automation , technology , and clinical/operational expertise to optimize medication management and improve medication safety. Key responsibilities include designing innovative processes for automated systems, leading initiatives related to technological solutions, and collaborating with clinical, operational, and technical teams to identify technology-driven improvements. The Informatics & Medication Safety Specialist will also support the implementation of advanced clinical decision support tools and systems. A primary focus will be on enhancing medication safety through robust system design, clinical decision support systems to prevent errors, and the adoption of new technologies and best practices. Staffing commitment may be required as part of this role, which will vary based on Market needs and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize advanced automation technologies to enhance pharmacy operations and supply chain .

  • Develop, deploy, and monitor system safeguards to prevent medication errors, including barcode medication administration, infusion library, and smart pump interoperability utilization and compliance .

  • Ensure quality control standards through real-time monitoring and analytics of the medication use process .

  • Implement closed-loop medication management systems to enhance patient safety .

  • Participate in designing and implementing enhancements within the EHR (Epic) .

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards through automated tracking and reporting mechanisms .

  • Conduct continuous quality improvement using data analytics to identify and mitigate medication safety risks .

Qualifications

Education:

  • A graduate of an approved College of Pharmacy and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree

Experience:

  • PGY1 Pharmacy Residency and one year of practice experience or f our years of pharmacy practice experience .

  • Proficiency in navigating the electronic medical record .

  • M ust be able to proficiently read, write and speak English .

Licensure/Certification:

  • Licensed Pharmacist in the state of Iowa

  • EPIC Certification
